Video shows a B-17 and reportedly a P-63. Tragic. :( |
Lots to unpack.
My goodness. |
|
Looks like the p63 did a loop and came fast. And over took the b17 from high behind.. took entire wing out.
Probably did not see the b17. Freak accident really.. but why was it hot dogging with so many other planes in the air... |
That P63 took out the fuselage of the B17. Seemed unaware of it as he was in a fast, long bank left.
Or misjudged closing speed |
P-63 took back half of the B-17 off--straight through the fuselage. Some report that the B-17 was the Sentimental Journey but videos seem to show an olive drab Fortress. CAF runs Texas Raiders which is drab in color.

I dont think the p63 could at all see the b17
|
Tragic, prayers to all of the families involved.

My first guess is the P-63 pilot had a medical issue and/or became incapacitated.
But who knows - Very tragic. If there were paying pax on the B-17 it's going to very hard to recover for those living history type rides on WWII bombers and such. |
Pretty sure it was the Texas Raiders aircraft. Local reports indicate that paying passengers were not on board the B17 at the time, although nothing definitive has been put out.
|
I think the P-63 was following a couple other planes that were turning inside of the B-17, a few hundred feet to it’s left side, and the P-63 was a little wide in its turn. I think the P 63 pilot completely lost sight of the B-17.
Said to be five lost aboard the B-17 and one in the P-63. |
The paint scheme from the wreckage points to "Texas Raiders"
