I know how you feel about those screwdrivers too.
I've got three that I'm particular about.
One, a flat blade wooden handled one that I know is older than I am as it was my dad's. It used to have a dot of red paint on it which he marked all his tools with when he had to take them into work because of a flood when we lived in New Jersey. He made sure he got all his tools back by putting that red dot of paint on them and I treasure those tools to this day.

Another is, again, a straight blade with a twist. It's a neat little driver that captures the slot of the screw when you twist it. I got it when I was in the Plymouth Trouble Shooting contest. It helped get the points hold down screw started. I think I got it from my instructor who'd had competing teams all the way back into the mid-fifty's.

The third is a flat blade that I've worn out myself, having been given it by my parents when I graduated high school. It's just a Craftsman, but it fits my hand better than just about any other tool I've got.

I had to teach my son (and daughter) that my tools were to be respected and returned at the end of each day if borrowed. They could use them, but only if they followed the rules.
They're both old enough now that they can afford to loose their own tools.

So I feel your pain drkshdw. Some tools just can't be replaced by new ones.

My brother lived near Creighton when he was at med school. Never anything stolen but his car, parked on the street, caught a bullet about an inch from the fuel fill door.

Candy or treats for trade is a great idea. Maybe brownies laced with laxatives....

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

The school sits right on the DMZ between civilization and North O.

Kids are dumb. at my brothers shop they broke into a box with $20k worth of tools in it so they can break into the car wash change machine outside and get 20$ worth of quarters.

OP, I know how you feel. I absolutely hate losing tools, whether stolen or just lost. I also have a lot of tools that I’m particularly attached to although none of them are heirlooms since I’ve had my entire tool box stolen more than once back in the ‘90s.

I am so fortunate to have my cars and tools in a safe place where everything is right where I left it last time. Knock on wood, though, nowhere is 100% safe.
