Thanks for the info Matt, I was thinking more in the 15-20k range Canadian (11-15us), so a 987 would not fit in, but I will try to find a 987 and drive it to appreciate the difference. Would prefer a Cayman but the Boxster's seem to be more abundant. Just want a fun driver that can be left in a parking lot, so cheaper is better. Not in a rush but trying to understand what the differences are between years.

Honestly my favorite of the 986 and 987 is the Cayman. They are stiffer and quite frankly I’m more of a coupe guy. The Boxster is also a great car I just never put the top down. I find the Boxster to be a bit more playful with the Cayman being a bit more tied down and overall a slightly better handler. Cayman also gets the edge in practicality due to the large hatch area. I don’t know about Canada but I’m the USA you can find a base Cayman in good shape with moderate mileage for about $15k. Also moving from 986 to 987 you get a nicer interior and more HP out of the base engines. I had a base 2005 Boxster and felt it was plenty quick.
