We have 2 different neck sized Japanese strats in our collection, both are easy and smooth. The smaller necked one my son learned on when he was quite young and then moved to the larger necked one.

Cheers

Just though I would update. When we were shopping , we came across this Jimi Herndrix Tribute mexi strat, and my son and I were both smitten. It is a tribute to the guitar that he lit on fire at the Monterrey pop festival . Supposedly Jimi painted the real one up himself .
I appreciate all your advice, and can attest that the mexican strats play really nice . We've also been on a buying spree of knock off guitars , Grabbed a few strat copy's an sg, and I am supposed to pick up an Epiphone les paul tomorrow .
Then I am going to save my pennies for a Gretsch .

We have decided to go ala rick neilsen and make a guitar wall in our man cave room.
We are both having good fun with this hobby

Yeah it is. Too bad for the chips on the edge near phone jack. Probably been dropped a couple times.

However, I know someone in Columbia, Missouri, an avid guitarist that has built guitars in the past, that may be able to fix the chips and match the finish.

Last year we had a "make it, bake it or we won't take it Xmas." My mom made these pants for me. I'm wearing them now, as I recover from the flu and lay around the house.

You could take the path i chose. I cant play a guitar to save my life so i decided to build my own(two actually). Body blanks, fretted necks and a whole host of available hardware.

Certainly depends on how dominate your craft gene is but i did get compliments about the playability of what i did build.

Great, i think, way to learn about the actual non musical aspects of a guitar. Might serve one well down the road.

You don't need to spend big money to get a good guitar. With a set up including intonation, bridge adjust/replacement, nut replace or rework, fret polish and a pickup, a $200 squier can sound like a Made in the USA strat. This work is easy to do with how to's available on Youtube. Make sure the neck is straight with no twisting, bowing etc.

For some unknown reason I am hunting for an Ovation Viper electric/acoustic in either 6 or 12 string. Never played one, but think it is one of the prettiest guitars ever created. I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

May be currently marketed as a Celebrity Collection Celebrity Elite.

I'm a rookie, 6 months into the journey and was tuning up the guitar, I usually always play with the neck pick up, tuned the guitar, switched to both pickup's and it was off a bit. Should I be tuning with the switch set to both pickup's? I'm using an electronic tuner btw.

it is possible that one of your pickups is too close to the strings and is pulling the strings out of tune....remember, pickups are magnets

is one pickup louder than the other?

No the strings aren't too close, I have the guys at the guitar store change my strings and set up the action and they know what there're doing so everything is good there.

I use those "Cat's Tongue" pic's and have found myself going to a softer pic than what I started with, It seems to be a bit easier to play with a purple pic, I started with orange, I just finished playing the other day, saw the orange pic and grabbed it, way better sound off of it, I had the wife listen and she liked the sound of the stiffer pic too. I thought it was because the pic was coming off the string sharper than with the softer pic but not sure why the sound is different.
I only pic, no strumming or chords, my fingers are too old and too fat for chords.
Is pic choice a personal preference or is it a choice based on style of playing or type of guitar being played? I have a solid body Fender Squire, Acoustic Yamaha and a hollow body electric Gretsch, I play all 3 every day, getting lots of practice in with the self isolation we're all going through, IMO your never alone when you've got a guitar.

yes pick choice is personal

I have been using the Tortex Orange .60mm since at least 1990

if I want a stiffer pick, I also use Dunlop prime tone .96
