Is CBD snake oil?
My SIL swears by it for reducing inflammation and also anxiety. Needless to say, it sounds too good to be true. It’s also expensive because she buys through MLM. What do you guys know about this stuff?
|
MLM is all you need to know.
quacks like a duck, walks like a duck..... |
I tried it for the sake of experimentation Maybe it was just in my mind, but I swear, that I felt a little bit better. Maybe a more positive mood, and reduced anxiety ? I only did it 3 times , once a day .
I plan on trying it again . I know several people that swear by it . One of my customers, not a pot head by any means. Just your normal middle aged man , has bad back problems for the last 15 years . He says that after all this time, it is the one thing that relieves his pain, without any side effects . He has had surgeries, tried opiates, all the typical pain killers, chiropractor etc. |
I don't know if it's snake oil or not but if it works for her, more power to her.
However, as regular marihuana becomes more and more legal we will find out just how damaging it really is. I read where it previously having been classified as a class IV narcotic or whatever prevented the widespread scientific study of it and its effects. Thus the oft-cited statements to the effect that there has never been any scientific study showing marihana to be harmful blah, blah, blah. The same might be true of CBD i.e., no empirical evidence to date one way or the other. |
Didn't do anything for me but it was for my shoulder which was really messed up. The doc asked how I made it as far as I did. Real pain killers.
|
No, it is not snake oil. For some problems, it's not going to work. If you need heart bypass surgery, CBD will not fix that. It has helped a LOT of people with other problems. I cannot count (and heard another story last weekend) the people who have reported remarkable relief just from the oil you rub on your skin. I have used it myself.
No. It is not snake oil. |
What a great question. I know a chemist that claims the molecule is too large to pass through the skin.
Lots of people swear by it. No idea. |

Yes, but a recent study shows that you should take it with some saturated fat...avocado etc, abut n 80% increase in uptake

It works for me. Neck pain was so bad that I was taking 4-6 ibuprofen a day. CBD has eliminated my need for Ibuprofen. Good CBD shouldn’t have any THC in it. It is made from hemp.
|
Yes!
I came for the CBD, and stayed for the THC. What was the question? |

My wife has Fibro Myalgia with lots of inflamation, and pain if she over does it the previous day, and has a major flareup. She used to be damned near bedridden on those days, but between her essential oils, and CBD, she is still very functional, and if the pain exists, she can eliminate it with it's use.
She doesn't use it daily, only when needed, with no side effects. |

Since my days of studying to pass the pee test are over, I decided to give CBO (with small amounts of THC) a try.
I have chronic arthritis in in my right hip (left has been replaced, I go see the same Doc tomorrow to schedule the right hip later this year) and both shoulders due to separations and dislocations. Lots of reasons why, not really germane. My experience, after a lot of homework and discussions with friends of mine who were using CBO's, has been fantastic. I have been able in the past eight months to get a walk/jog/elliptical in nearly everyday, started old guy pillow glove boxing training again and have lost the 30lbs I gained when the hip pain became too much. I never took pain killers beyond the occasional Advil at night to sleep. The CBO is all I now use. BTW, CBD is not supposed to contain THC. I bought a small amount at CVS for goodness sake. If it is the placebo effect I am onboard the Placebo Express. |

I honestly hope CBD oil is the magic bullet of pain management. Since from what I hear, there is no "high" or mind altering effect, it should not impair driving or cognitive abilities. It will likely be 20 years before a scientific double blind test is done and the results are published, and it will be as definitive at the studies on alcohol consumption. One study says alcohol is deadly and the next says it is a life saver. We all know that alcohol used just a little too much is not a good thing for drivers. |
I don't know anything about CBD or if it is even considered an "essential oil" but this seemed pretty humorous:

There are cases where it has helped with seizures.
Alexis Bortell had multiple seizures a day. No drug helped until she tried Cbd. She has had one seizure in the couple of years since starting the therapy. The family packed up and moved from Texas to Colo so they could legally get treatment. She has sued to get it approved nation wide. She is a sharp little girl. Read up on her case. |
Double post

Any search will turn up either glowing reviews or how worthless CBDs and CBOs are...I decided to see for myself. Again, it has been eight months and I plan on continuing. Glen, shoot me a good email - I want to talk about PP 2020! |
Some friends claim that it helps, some say it's a total waste of money and a Ponzi scheme of sorts.
Two somewhat impartial studies: https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/cannabidiol-cbd-what-we-know-and-what-we-dont-2018082414476 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6326553/ Bottom line is more controlled clinical studies are needed. Also, CBD is interpreted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Food and Drug Administration, and Congress to be a Schedule I substance and therefore it is illegal in all 50 states under Federal law. UPDATE: (2018 change) The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has taken some cannabidiol out of the most restrictive class of controlled substances, a move that allows the sale of the first nonsynthetic, cannabis-derived medicine to win federal approval. It’s a decision that immediately affects CBD producers but also signals the agency’s first admission that the plant has medical value. The DEA announced Thursday that drugs including CBD with THC content below 0.1% are now considered Schedule 5 drugs, as long as they have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is the first time the agency has lowered any type of cannabis from Schedule 1. Travel with it at your own risk as far as TSA goes (they can't test for 10th of a percent on site): Marijuana and certain cannabis infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA. (See the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, Pub. L. 115-334.) TSA officers are required to report any suspected violations of law to local, state or federal authorities. TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer. |
One issue that is rampant in the "health food" supplements is are you really getting what is on the label. Sometimes they have 1/2 the active ingredient, sometime way more.
Again, I really do hope it is a cure for so many people's pain. To have a pain relief that does not make the person impaired, and does not eat holes in their stomach, or destroy kidneys or livers would be great. And if the ads are true, it cures pain, epilepsy, and most of the ills of mankind. |

Also similar results in users. For some, like me, it works, for others, not so much. |

My sister uses it and it has helped grow hair back on her head and eyebrows (she no longer needs to pencil her eyebrows in). Has helped with her blood sugars as well, as long as she doesn't take too much. Some others I know it has helped with pain.
One thing to watch out for, make sure you get it from a reputable dispensary. |
It doesn't work for me and most THC strains are just too strong, even Indica. So most days I just deal with the pain. It sucks muchly.:(
|
Flatbut, I am not sure what is available to you where you live, but I know post legalization here there are strains available, indica and sativa both, ranging from 2% to 23%. A low level balanced CBD THC oil may be more effective for pain.
I do not use CBD myself, but the difference in my dog on it/ off it is night and day. It sure seems to help him with his joints. |

I can only speak to external application... Not snake oil at all.
I use it as a roll on / cream on sciatica area, tennis elbow, sore shoulder, daily. Works a treat. Not placebo at all. I went without for short trip (forgot to take it with me) was wondering why my pain was flaring up again - I'd genuinely forgotten about it until I realized that was the difference - so not a placebo effect. That said there are many sellers / potency / products and it took some research and trial and error to find a formulation that worked for me - as in one that works and doesn't stink. can't speak to the one you ingest, have not tried that... |
CBD does work - for me. Same results as mentioned above - helps a lot with inflammation (tendonitis/back) and anxiety. It took me a while to find a company that specializes in different blends. I chose Blue Bird Botanicals. They have all of their batches tested and you can see the results online. I use the Classic CBD Oil which has less than 1% THC by volume. They also have a line of "THC Free" (no high) products so you don't pop on tests. They run promos for free shipping, 10% off, etc. fairly often.

Ground it up, heated it up very low/slow sauteed in butter (ghee might have been better), and made brownies. It is fat-soluble. Gave to a sketchy latino stoner dude I worked with who swore by them and wanted more more more. I did not try them, due to job requirements, but sometimes wish I had. |
Western medicine is tops for fixing total-system failure situations.
Also very expensive and complicated in bureaucracy. Some is pure corruption. The pot industry vs. the opioid industry. I'll leave it at that.. Eastern medicine is tops for health maintenance. Maintaining health is for life. Daily maintenance is what we eat, how we treat our body, not doing stupid things on purpose, and respecting the feedback signals of when we should not push 100%. |
Started taking it while on a trip to Amsterdam. Have had lower back pain for a long time and really gets bad flying. Started it a couple of days before we came home. No back pain. I used to hobble around in pain until around noon. Also have arthritis in my thumbs, the pain is gone. I have cut way back on ibuprofen as a result. Just make sure to get a good one. A friends brother with chronic pain for the last 20 years started on it and was pain free. He tried a cheaper one and did not work. The TSA has approved CBD Oil on flights as long as it is derived from Hemp.
