Is the 992 smaller than the previous version?

I have seen a few 992's in person now. It's a beautiful car but I'm still just floored at the price for a base Carrera with a few options. Over $130K. Still no true dry sump. Not really very well suited for combo daily/track use, at least not seriously. I just have a hard time making sense of that. For what you are getting the price is crazy IMO.

As a track day guy the more I look at new 911's the more I would buy a GT4 instead. Or maybe a C8 Corvette (gasp!). Maybe this is what Porsche wants.

Calling probable BS on the picture above... The 992 is bigger but not that much so. And comparing a 4S widebody to an early narrow one is a little unfair.

That's a 991.1 non widebody admitedly. The ever rising tail lights make the new car look bigger for sure (and it is). But not as much as above.

Light bar is a throwback to the G model's rear reflector. You can just imagine a wider bar would look sweet.

Well this one doesn't - at least not in my opinion. I can live without the stickon afterthought brake light too.

I know they started this a few years ago, but the cheap afterthought JC Whitney looking script emblems stuck on the middle of the rear bumper look extremely chincey. (The chrome stick on letters that say Carerra, etc.). Ridiculous for something like that to be a high priced car like this.

You can order it without.

But it's on the interwebs so it has to be true! :D

Porsche 992 Width 1,852 mm (72.9 in)
1964 Porsche 911 Width 63.4 in | 1610 mm.

So only a difference of 9.5", or 242 mm. 14% increase



992 Kerb weight 1,505–1,635 kg (3,318–3,605 lb)
1964 911 Kerb weight 1080 kg (2381 lb)
34% increase in weight.


But all cars have increased in weight over the years, mostly due to DOT crash and safety regulations. thanks big brother!
The 922 still about 50# lighter than the new corvette, even though the 992 is 2" taller.

To me this is a good illustration of the size gain... A 991 tire (close to same as 992 overall) next to a long hood... Eat that unsprung weight ;-)

The 992 may be the last 911 generation.... Taycan is likely going to be the future for Porsche (unfortunately)...

As long as Porsche is making a profit on the 911, it will continue to evolve and improve.

The electric cars are only being developed because governments demand the pollution be moved from the cities centers to the country-side power plants.

Taxes on gasoline cars, credits for electric cars.

Are you saying that it's better to have wheelbarrow wheels and tires, rather than big honkin meats, on a performance car?!?! :)

I like to leave the honkin' to the horn.

The tires are for screechin', and big or small I can get either to do that.

I predict that within a few years people will be singing the praises of how stylish and "classic" the 'ol 992 looks, as Porsche rolls out the new "all electric" 994...

I'm not saying anything other than it looks shocking side to side.
And maybe that "cars" have grown a bit. I understand rubber must match power output. I can hardly lift the 991 wheel ;-)
