Followed one for a few miles tonight coming home from dinner.
The whole family universally agreed it is not a pretty car from that angle at night. The vertical slats weren’t a plus and the ripped off boxster lookalike light bar didn’t help much. Also the lizard green color did it no favors, but my wife’s comment - it doesn’t look like a Porsche, it looks Japanese pretty much summed it up. Hope it grows into it’s looks as it ages or it’ll be the new 996. |

Agree with OP. The front end kills it for me. I'm also not fond of the rear deck and lights. Its just starting to look like every other modern car. The iconic shape of the 70's through early 90's 911 was different than anything on the road and instantly recognizable. I understand the car must evolve but at what point will it no longer be the same car, or have we already reached that point? I get that its a better car but it lacks the soul of the early versions. Look at my signature below and you'll see which of the two I sold.

Well you are going to love it. It is faster, sticks better, turns in better. Better as a sports car in every way. I get if you don't like the styling but as an evolution of the 991 they did a great job.
I drive an air cooled to work everyday and spend all day driving 991's. The 992 is just a better preforming car Quote:

The argument that it’s a faster, better handling car could equally be applied to the Lotus Europa vs the Lotus Elan. Ones pretty, one looks like a bread van. |

The 991 definitely looks better. I dont like the squared off hood and the rear deck/tail light area either.

There is nothing to see when you open the decklid. Depressing.
I watched Doug DeMuro's review on youtube. Looks like a good car overall, but $$$ and overall the 911 may have jumped the shark. He mentioned how it was a big buzz in years past when the new 911 came out. Now everyone looked at the new Ecar. Also no engine to look at there. ;) Sign of the times. G |

There is nothing Japanese looking about the 992, I'm not even sure how the OP can even make that statement.
Personally I think the 992 is a brilliant car, we are lucky that Porsche is still invested in this model and they continue to improve it. Think about 2 years from now, a gently used one with low mileage will be a great pick-up. |
It looks a lot more Japanese than 911 and the Braun shifter is a joke. They've priced it with a PDK and will offer (maybe someday?) a manual with no discount.
It's like offering a 90K Boxster with a four banger.....there won't be many takers. |
I’m 100% sure the 992 is a better car for performance metrics, without even driving it. I very much dislike the styling, and where they seem to be headed. I doubt that I would ever buy anything newer than a 991. The biggest clue that they don’t get it is most of the marketing including the grams of carbon per mile.... no one buying these cars cares about that

Our local dealership had the "introduction" party for the 992 just last week. They asked the local PCA region for some older 911s as an historical display of the 911. We had one member bring a 2018 911 Turbo, and a 996, and a 993 Cabriolet, and then my 1985 911. My car was the oldest car there, and represented the G body era. No owners with a long hood 911 was available that evening.
Anyway, my car was the first car one saw when they walked in the room. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571058841.JPG This is the typical chick that just hangs out around my car when I park it anywhere. Anyway, they had free food and booze, so a big crowd. I hung around my car and answered questions about it. I had dozens of men and several women say my car was their dream car. Most people were amazed I actually drive it, and are amazed when I tell them I have driven that car in 40 states, working on driving it in all 48, and it has been in Canada. The head salesman at the dealership told me my car was the star of the shown and more people gathered around it than the 992s they had featured. I think he was exaggerating, but it did draw a lot of interest. The new 992 was $138,000 my car sold new for $38,000 back in 1985. If you do the inflation caculator they 38K is $90,676.97, so the new 911 is way bigger, and million times more complex, way faster, and not really that much more. The big difference, my car will not be depreciating, unlike the 992. |
