Pneumatic Tubing - Is 10mm and 3/8" OD interchangeable?
Anyone in the knowledge base know if 10mm and 3/8" OD pneumatic tubing can be used interchangeably? I know 3/8" is 9.5mm.
Trying to find push-to-connect fittings for air lines to my 4-post lift and some of what I see suggests they can be interchanged. I am having a hard time finding all the connectors I want in one size...some are available in 3/8" and some in 10mm. Pressure load will be 90psi max. Using Polyurethane 3/8 OD tubing. Thanks in advance.

I have had issue (in an industrial setting) where techs mixed 10mm and 3/8 tubing and fittings.
McMaster Carr or Fastenal should have all the push connect fittings you need in both sizes. |

I have no idea about push-fit as we do not use it in industrial applications , but metric and imperial are not the same and shouldn’t be mixed ...
90psi is enough to mess you up .... I take it your machine is metric and you want to tube it in imperial ? You’ll probobly find it easier to work back to a thread and convert to swaged tube at that point . Eg : 10mm bspt to 3/8” swaglok . Another option would be to use the threads to adapt to quick disconnects and use air hose . Eg : 10mm bspt to 3/8” fnpt , to a 3/8” male hose qick-connect . You’ll be able to get the hoses and disconnects at harbor freight to save time & cash , but will probobly have to order the pipe adapters . Last edited by ian c2; 11-03-2019 at 08:27 PM.. |

No, I had the same issue with some european equipment I purchased for our side business. I just went on Amazon and ordered a small supply of connectors/adapters for 10mm. Super cheap

Push to connect has to be the right size, 3/8 will not seal in a 10 mm fitting.
If you need metric look for SMC or Festo tubing online. Don't buy cheap stuff for a lift.

I'm assuming you need the tubing/fittings to activate the safety locks ? For my 2 post lift I was able to find what I needed on Amazon but McMaster Carr or Fastenal are good sources also . I agree use the same size through out don't try to mix and match . You might also consider getting everything from the lift manufacturer if they are still in business . On my lift I regulate the PSI down to about 20 or so to activate the cylinders , no reason to run them any higher . If you are needing the tubing/fittings for some other reason on your lift then that may change the PSI requirement .
