I just finished watching it.

Brilliant movie. I felt a real empathy for the characters. The ending is tragic.
The academy made a good choice in awarding this Best Movie.

Is it better than the nominees? It's hard to say but this movie is special in its own way.

It's gotta be a tough job for them..choosing a best pic between a car movie and one like Parasite. How would they compare them?
The visuals in parasite are outstanding.
I think is was Stijn that said it's quirky...I love quirky movies.
Glad you liked it...not everyone will.

Seen both.
Hard to compare...Parasite is more fun through most...but there is more (which I won't print)
Parasite is more quirky

Chris called it back in early November.

I couldn't agree more with his (non spoiler) review.

^^^ That is a great review.
I was in a Meijers this am (large dept store) In the audio/video dept they had racks of dvd's for
all the Oscar winning movies.
Except none for Parasite! I asked if they were sold out and a gal said they never received any!
Someone made the wrong picks for stocking.

He reviewed a movie in 2016 called "Your Name" Anime.

Gave it an A+. I watched it two months ago and not an Anime fan and loved it.

He gave Alita Battle Angel a B which was my fave movie last year but his critique is valid.

Stuckman is spot on.

He gave The Lighthouse an A+ and I watched that painful piece to the end and talked about it days afterwards to anybody that would listen. Why was that? Impact maybe?

Just watched Your Name... awesome good tip, best Anime i've watched in a long time.
Great story line, really catches your attention and keeps you locked in till the end.

To be honest, Liked it even more then Parasite and if you ask me they should give more props to Anime at the awards.. it's not because it's a cartoon that it's not a great piece of work.
If you think about it, they give prizes for best special effects which is mostly CGI now.
But anime, every frame comes straight out of somebodies imagination.. And if done right, it's better then the big overstated CGI that Hollywood produces, it's way more subtle, it fits the storyline instead of interrupting it.

Last night was the second time I've tried watching 'Your Name'.
It just doesn't keep me interested. I've made it to the 20 minute mark..that's it.
I'll try again...the Prime rental lasts for a month.

Bong Joon-ho seems to really like the 'Park' family name.

Watched Bong's 'The Host' last night. Can only describe it as a Korean horror/monster movie...but very realistic.
4K is amazing. Soundtrack will shake your couch/chair in spots.
I won't give any of the plot away, but it's worth watching.
It is a 2007 movie and it shows how far Bong Joon-ho has progressed.
Having seen Parasite twice now...I can say it's a whole another step up...imo.

Wife and I saw it, didn’t think it was Oscar worthy, and frankly not a great movie. Each to their own I guess.

Most common family names in Korea : Kim , Lee, Park...
That covers 50% of all people in Korea

Sorry for the hijack, Bob, what are your thoughts on The Lighthouse? Wanted to see it, never got around to it.

As I said on another thread, Parasite was very well done, really enjoyed it.

I thought the ending was the best part. Definitely rewarding with some sweet irony thrown in for good measure.

Finally watched Parasite last night. I got the gist a little from the trailers, reviews and listening to people talk but no real clue. Thank goodness people respect spoilers.

Absolutely loved it. Insanely funny yet covers a full range of emotion. Powerful.

It's grim, it's long and it's well done. Some humor which had big impact for me in the midst of the grind.

It was like Eraserhead in that it's so unique and artistic you just keep watching.

Most of the people I talked to (before the isolation), said they prob wouldn't see it because of the subtitles.
After the first 5 minutes of the movie..I didn't even notice them anymore.
My hearing isn't the best..so I think it actually helps me with the dialogue.

I thought is was a great movie. I would watch it again; nothing at all what I was expecting.

I especially liked how the tutor got the kid in line in about 5 min - like watching a dog whisperer.
