An order is a "$100 returnable deposit". So yes they have lots via the webs site but how many turn into actual sales is another thing entirely. (~50% maybe?)
The scheme raises awareness and ads urgency. Like most things Elon does it's about marketing. (Some would say BS)

It will be a really nice eco-statement (low carbon footprint) truck for someone who really doesn't need a truck....more like a rolling billboard for their beliefs, rather than a viable hauling option.

Just about as worthless as a Chevy Avalanche, but costs more !
