So, digging into the technical. The body uses a VERY hard, scratch resistant stainless steel variant. The problem, the type of stainless is very brittle, which is why it has the flat panels.

The problem is, hardness is not toughness. The metal will probably crack in a crash, instead of deforming.

Yeah that’s a pretty ridiculous comparison. Sorry but towing is going to be one of the biggest weaknesses of an electric truck. Instant torque will be fantastic but what’s the range towing 10,000 lbs on a 100 F day over hilly terrain? I tow my boat about 250 miles round trip every weekend, and there’s not a single Supercharger on the route.

Tire size doesnt matter so much. Weight does. And just to make sure things went Tesla's way, the Slab starts the forward motion, and puts the truck into dynamic friction (less sticky than stuck static )

And yeah, it looks long even up against a 4-door truck

The supercharger network is expanding quickly and many of the new supercharging stations have pull-through chargers which will be critical for anyone carrying a trailer behind them.

301 stainless, which appears to be what Tesla is using, has higher elongation than any other austenitic stainless in the annealed condition. If they use it in the cold worked condition then toughness and elongation would go down but it would also be harder to brake into the shapes they're using.

There will be plenty of LOOK AT ME types lining up to buy that POS. Call it the Delorian syndrome.
But ultimately it will fail and they'll spend the rest of their lives circling the wagons with other "like-minded individuals"arguing that it wasn't a dumb move.
