Woman braving brushfire to save injured koala

Lots of early season bush fires in Aus.
I thought you guys and gals would be interested considering this is a growing problem in the US.

Take care everyone.

The sad thing is there are another million of them burnt that will die in infection in a week or so.

Bush fires are so tragic in so many ways.

All I can say is good luck, but sadly it's pretty bad for this early in the season

Sorry to see those fires, but watching a helpless animal getting saved is heartwarming. (I hope he/she recovers)

"Lewis" is recovering well. The problem as Bill mentioned is infection but they respond well to treatment.

We had a bunch of them injured last season and most of them got better and were released back into the wild.

That is good to hear. That poor koala got burnt, but he kept on trucking!

Saw that on the news, Peter.

So sad these little innocents get caught up in the fires.

Bless that lady for her huge heart and generous spirit!

And bless all the Australian fauna....

You can't save the world. But she saved a small piece if it. Bless her!

Yes, bad news. He was too far gone. They had to put him to sleep.

That's a shame, but at least he had some care and should have been made more comfortable versus being left in the fire.

It's a sad outcome but we can only do our best for these animals. Minimising suffering is sometimes the best we can do.

A comedian once said... "The last moments of life for most animals is spent screaming in terror".

It got a laugh from the audience but afterwards I realised it's true. Most of the time animals living in the wild work hard everyday just to stay alive. Brush fires are a natural occurrence in Aus. A lot of our plants and tree only germinate after a fire. Their seed pods need heat from a fire to open up.

Well, the first of the outer Sydney fires was started by a 12 year old boy. I hope his family have the money to pay for the weeks of destruction that it led to.

Poor Lewis and his buddies.

They've arrested more than 12 people total across NSWs and Queensland.

Russell Crowe's property has been devastated.

Heartwarming story- shame Lewis didn't make it. Can you normally walk up to a koala like that and take them, or was that because he was injured?

Thanks for posting it. Nice to hear there are some special people around!
