I Just Love Thankgiving Family Get Togethers

Thankgiving dinners are always just sumptious with roast Turkey, Dressing made with Chicken Livers pine nuts and raisins, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Sweet Potatoes with maple syrup, Green Bean Casserole, Pumpkin Pie and Pecan pie. Then it is a good time getting together witj relatives that you havnt seen for the past year. Ypu talk about old times and what you have done in the past year...after dinner you sit down in front of the big screen to watch the game while having a few drinks. Invariably thats when the the argument breaks out about some past or imagined slight..and that is when the gun is pulled out and the shooting begins, leaving a couple of family members wounded or dead. Arent the holidays just great.

Tryptophan. Damned near tripped over the fan. I was napping by 3pm. No gun fire, but the environment could have used some.

Yes all of that typical family get together stuff - it's overrated. Starts off with the best of intentions. Everyone saying how much they have missed eachother and we should do this more often. Then the occasional snide remark, the usual throwing food and calling names, then someone pulls a gun and starts shooting and ruins what could have been an otherwise pleasant evening.

My brother shoots my sister's dog right in the neck yesterday for begging for food during dinner. I gave him my pistol because his jammed.

It was awkward finishing the meal.

Part of any family gathering has been keeping the kids entertained and out from under foot. The TV is on for football only, which doesn't entertain two energetic teenage boys for long.

I had them haul in a cord of firewood before dinner to take the edge off.

It has become a tradition (5 years now) to get out the two man slingshot and launch produce into the distance. That entertains them for a while. I get half a bushel of deer apples and they launch them out over the ravine. Fortunately they have an uncle and a stepdad who are young at heart and they all get out there have a great time launching produce. This year we had some hedge apples too, which really fly - a good 50 yards.

The good ole days. We use cannons now, but the kids don't know how to build them.

I am happy to report that Thanksgiving this year was just the wife and I , just didn't work out for other family members to attend . We went to the movies then enjoyed dinner out at a restaurant . Came home , watched some football and enjoyed a home baked dessert . No weapons made it out of the gun safe all sharp utensils stayed in the drawer It couldn't have been a more peaceful day . Having said that if family had shown up we are not the fighting type , we generally get along ........ sorry to disappoint

Thanksgiving was great with a dear friend in the hospital. So thankful for all of my friends and especially ones like this one.

Nice.

Have to admit, my brother did not shoot the dog as reported above. Sister, brother, his fiance and I went to the Waterloo Restaurant for a noon dinner and watched The Irishman afterwards.

A relaxing snoozer of a day.

Good on you Shaun! Please furnish them with full size trash cans so they won't feel half way gone.

Lots of warm and fuzzies here - staying close with family requires me to let a lot stuff just roll off my back. Unlike my friends, I didn't get to choose my family.

Long story short... I ended up jumping in the swimming pool because someone said I wouldn't.

Family: it can be difficult at times, but still well worth it!

How come the nephews don't just use the slingshot to haul in the firewood?

Geez, that slingshot gave me the giggles. It fitted nicely into the "what could possibly go wrong category."

I've had a lovey time. Friends coming around, too much alcohol, the dogs barking at strangers walking past, topless girls across the road, BBQ-ed steak and asparagus for dinner, what more could a guy want.

All the best to you all.
