I know, you're welcome! . Dude, if I weren't building a 4.0L MFI motor for my car, I would be all over that thing! Will go for less than $30K.

Why would someone buy that and then drive it less than 100 miles?

This was a bad ass car when released in 1990. It was borderline exotic to high schoolers. I believe my friend was paying $6k to insure it.

I have 1 in right now. Cool car but lots of bits NLA. Thankfully pretty good tuner/aftermarket.

Between the AWD Eclipse, the Starion, and the 3000GT, Mitsubishi used to have some really cool cars. Too bad they haven't made anything cool in 20+ years.

The Evo's aren't "cool"?

Forgot about the Evo. Thanks for the correction. Isn't that dead now?

ya...and it stinks.

I was smart enough to test drive a new Evo in about 2005 or so. It seemed absurdly capable. Should have bought one even though I couldn't afford to.

I had a Starion, Fiji Blue, and a Black Conquest at the same time as the 3000. Never managed to acquire an Eclipse even though I wanted to.

Friend of mine had a turbo 3000 GT VR4, kind of a pearl white, mild to moderately stunning stock paint job, dinged a bit by high speed collisions with various East Texas bugs. Never got to drive it, he traded it on a Corvette. He said it was a mistake, he missed the Mitsubishi, said it felt quicker, preferred the AWD, which was pretty advanced I think. Corvette was faster, but he did not really like it, did not keep it long. I would think one of those C 5 Corvettes would be a good car for eating up Texas highways, they are fast autocrossing. No doubt it had good air conditioning, looks like a comfy seat.

I can imagine the combination of turbo and AWD would be fairly intoxicating though.

My wife has a Montero Sport that is really a pretty good truck, for an SUV, kind of narrow, which makes it easier to park. Towed my Integra out from Texas like it was nothing

Don’t forget the Eagle Talon TSI, they were pretty cool as well. Same drivetrain as the highest spec Eclipse as they were all built together right?

Right.

The Stealth, Conquest, and Talon were rebadged 3000GT’s, Starions, Eclipses with varying levels of cosmetic changes.

Starions and Conquests were the most similar. The most notable difference in mine were the 4 spoke steering wheel in the Starion vs 3 in the Conquest.

Pretty much like GM, Firebird / Camaro, or Tahoe / Yukon / Escalade.

Those VR4's weren't all that quick. In 1993 I helped a friend move from Dallas to Houston, he drove my dodge ram p/u, I drove his 1986 951. Somewhere along the way down I45 a vr4 rolled upon us. He wanted some, and he got it. Rolled 3rd to 100, left him in 4th. It was 2 car length close, but he may not have been in it all the way.

On paper the VR4 is a bit quicker than a 951 but close enough that the difference would be the driver.

91-93 VR4’s were 1st gen. Subsequent years got another 20 HP with a couple of stand out years seeing sub 5 second 0-60 times.

Yes, they were just a rebadged Eclipse. Built in the same factory in Normal, IL, that is now the Rivian factory.

OK, since we're there, my friends and my self thought...

Very cool (Conquest TSI/Starion, in this color) I did want one of these when I was in HS

Talon/eclipse - I did think these were cool, and saw a couple/few that were really cool that I would have liked to have.

3000 GT always seemed cool, but not anything that I ever lusted over.

We (myself and my car nut buddies) thought the 300ZX TT (especially with the 4 wheel steering) were super cool. I occasionally see those in good shape. They have aged really well, IMO.

One of our local PCA members got married, and had kids. He sold his SC and bought VR4 back when they were fairly new. He liked track days at the Hallett, OK track. He had driven his SC on track dozens of times. He took the VR4 to the track and totally ate up the brakes in two 20 minute sessions, and had to drive home very carefully, mostly using the emergency brakes. So the VR4 was pretty fast, but had very inadequate brakes for a day at the track on street tires. The killer was the guy that bought his 911, was there on track for the 4 - 20 minute sessions and had no issues.
