no way I am working thru all of this - but...

Even a 'small' town like Eugene has people who do acoustics and lighting for eateries and offices, so PDX surely does.

Or you could ask your friendly neighborhood architect...

Wow, that's a lot of homework...

With LEDs so cheap, I'm thinking the trial and error approach...

On a related topic, I was reading about recommended office decor and furnishing. Inviting chairs, in a sitting room layout, soft lighting, soothing art with still lifes and landscapes, etc.

I decided, screw that. I'm not a dentist or therapist. It is not a place to feel lulled and disarmed, it is a place to work intensely. My daughter's paintings may be abstract and aggressively colorful but I can tell people she painted them and then they'll be interesting and memorable. I mean, it's in an old industrial building in a gritty part of town. Never going to be a conventional space.

There are specs. on office lighting somewhere, but I don't know where...

The ID of your son answers why "you" looked so young... (and had a bun).
And had a six pack etc.

Sigh.

I think trial & error should work well.

You can even use battery operated LEDs to make it easier to move them around.

Now, why are you in a "gritty" district at all?

One of the best features of LED lights is that they fire up quickly, unlike florescent, use less energy of course, and the new ones have better color rendition (more natural looking light), and best of all, are dimmable.

Why is the dimming feature so great? Because the LEDs can put out way more light than you need, and therefore you can adjust the lighting level according to the seasons, or mood, etc.

This made a big difference for my wife. She is prone to the migraines. I put two different color lights in the tube fluorescent fixtures at the office.

Like the idea.
This might affect the lifespan of the ballast though. Different ohms through the tubes. But maybe that would work better in the long run.
idk.

In these pictures of my office restroom you can see a prismatic effect on the edge of the LED lens fixture. It shows the spectrum of colors of this type of light. It is the closest to natural light that I have seen in an LED. At home, I mix the incandescent style lights to get as close as I can to natural light.

Reasonably priced. Old building with character. Windows that actually open. View of the river and downtown. A foodie-known fancy restaurant downstairs. Reserved parking spots in a secure lot just steps from entrance. 10 min bike ride from my house. Bring your bike right up to your office. Fewer homeless / crazy people than downtown or the Pearl. Bunch of design, architecture, software, media, non-profit, web etc companies in the building. No lawyers' offices anywhere (I think they're prohibited).

room on the left is the original light bulbs, room on the right has 2 of the 80w 3-leaf LED garage lights.

massive difference even in the daytime, on a typical gloomy Portland winter day

I think the garage LEDs will be okay, at least for now, in the “work” room which is where they are now. for the “meet” room, which is the other room that has the original lights, I will need a less glaring solution with the wall washer lights you guys have pointed me to

an angled trip of LEDs might be good for area lighting - right up against that HVAC boxed thingie on the ceiling
