Lamb of God? Not my favorite, but they do get pretty hard. This was last summer, the sign language girl was made famous because of this video. She got lucky, because there were 3 people who worked through during the entire 6 HOUR SHOW. 5 bands took turns, but those 3 people did just as much work, it was freaking amazing. We were about 10 feet offscreen from the guy filming.

I've never seen anything like that - love it!

Distillers? Not the hardest, but she has a great punk voice, and I loved the range from "I hate the would rarrr" to some complex, melodic stuff.
Not here though, this is just punk anger. "Murder murder a ripe blood stain, pulled the ******* trigger cause I'm sick of it all"
Got to finally see them a few months ago, even 17 years later she ripped it up live.

Then there's a whore different world...old school hardcore industrial. Good for driving hard, good for drinking hard, good for wrenching hard...

If you like Rammstein, you'll like the band who taught them everything they know...

Maybe some rare Nine Inch Nails, from the remix album of Broken? This EP needs to be played LOUD because it will be the last thing you hear...

I'll never knock anyone for their taste in music but, I have to say, this is one musical genre that I guess I'll never appreciate. I know there is some real talent to be seen in some of this, and I appreciate that. I just don't understand the attraction to all of the darkness, angst, rage, anger, and all of that. Not to mention the fixation on the satanic, on death, and that whole deal. I just strikes me as a rather odd theme to be attracted to as a form of "entertainment".

That, and a lot of it seems very formulatic, very contrived, and very scripted, all within a very narrow set of boundaries. And much of it targeted at angry, youngish middle aged white techies and office workers. I dunno, I guess I listen to music more to relax and chill, rather than to get all amped up and aggressive with someone hissing, growling, and screaming dark and angry lyrics at me. To each his own, I guess. I am kind of glad you started your own thread for this, though, so I do thank you for that. SmileWavy

. . .

Is it more or less odd than shooting things (living creatures and inanimate objects) for entertainment?

The types of songs that I post, and that others have posted here, I find very relaxing to listen to - they don't amp me up, make me feel aggression, or anything of the sort (not kidding).

Some of these bands certainly get me excited or amped up in positive way. It’s typically not more than a big grin or happy feeling.

Same here - I guess I was equating "amped" with aggression (as in, listening to Slipknot makes me want to go smash something or shake my fist in someone's face - which it does not), from JH's commentary.

Soundgarden was never really "heavy" metal, but this song always made me think they were just a more evolved/refined version of heavy metal. Saw them live in high school. They were an amazing band. RIP Chris Cornell

Interesting, but I guess not entirely unexpected responses - not a one of which addresses what I consider to be the only really bizarre aspects of this musical genre, the fixation on satan, death, the occult, and all of that. That's the part I don't understand.

I love rock'n'roll in (almost) all of its wonderful variety. Hell, I was listening to "metal" before that was even a term, and I suspect before some of you were even born. I grew up on the original punk of the '70's, and have witnessed, with great sadness, the passing of many of its pioneering artists. All of these guys and gals were rocking pretty damn hard, without the need to invoke satan, without the fascination with death, without the occult undertones. Yes, maybe a few hinted at this stuff, in a very, very few of their songs, but it was far from their signature schtick. I find it rather ironic that, when I was younger, rock'n'roll was "the work of the devil", and today we finally have a whole genre of it that does, in fact, celebrate the guy.

I guess I'm just fascinated that there is such a fascination with it. Yeah, music is, in the end, just an escape, but who wants to escape to this place? Why? Does anyone really find escape in, take comfort in, satan, the occult, and death? I bet a lot of shrinks could have (undoubtedly have had, in fact) a real heyday with this.
