Fighting for his life.

On Thursday morning my wife's sister delivered and my new nephew arrived at 24 weeks. He was just .711kg and has now dropped to .577 and is in the fight of his life.

He has crossed the 72 hour mark so that is a good thing but he is very far from being out of the woods and that he is still dropping weight isn't good at all!

I'll update again with what I can while keeping the private things private.

For those that are the praying type, I'd appreciate them now. I know miracles can and do happen.

I’m a high risk OB. My prayers are with you and your family. I wish him the very best... God Bless.

Prayers sent. This is a tough way to come into the world but it is still possible.

Praying for miracles for your family.

Thank you!

We have some experience with micro-preemie's having fostered one for a year after her stay in the NICU. She started life at .680kg but was almost 26 weeks. We know it can and does work out in the long term.

My wife has been with her sister since delivery and has been a great source of information and comfort.

Big prayers and positive vibes coming your way ! My little guy was not that far behind yours when he came. He was a tad over 2.5 pounds .
Now I can't keep up with the little rug rat .

Wishing you good luck. 24 weeks is pretty early. How long is he? My granddaughter was just barely as long as my daughter's hand at 38 weeks. She was tiny.

Thoughts sent...

They're in well-charted territory. It seems insane - and it is - but there's a great chance things will go well.

I'm on sick-kid duty today (just sniffles) with our 6yo. She was 25wk and 410g. Four months in the NICU, another few on O2 and more or less things are awesome now! She has a few minor sensory issues, has high BP and she'll always be small, but she's a fearless little punk terrorizing the skate park and the gymnastics mat.

Make sure everyone takes advantage of what's offered. It's easy to pass up but trust me, they need it. Our state did awesome early intervention therapy - we had weekly visits from every kind of therapist up to 3yo. Free of charge, even in New Mexico which is usually bouncing on the bottom of the "50-best" lists.

Your sister in law is fortunate to have you & her sister near.

I am a twin, born 3 months premature over 50 yrs ago. Spent time in an incubator and weight dropped to around that of your new nephew and here I am today to tell you about it.

Your nephew can make it.

crustychief 01-27-2020 04:59 PM

My oldest son was premature. Thoughts and prayers to your family.

71T Targa 01-27-2020 04:59 PM

Thank you! It's great to hear from those who have been there.

I know it's not a lost cause, but there is a long road ahead.

JavaBrewer 01-27-2020 06:47 PM

71T Targa - the definition of life is a long road. Even those that appear to have it 'ALL' struggle for what is really important. You don't have that luxury...what is important is right in front of you. No need to pretend. Thank you for sharing. I am a big believer in sharing...even with those not personally involved. There is a world wide community, which is PP, pulling for you!

Praying for you and your family to find peace in the midst of the storm. Remember in Whom you trust.

Prayers for the little one.

Bill Douglas 01-27-2020 07:26 PM

You're a winner. And I think this is a win too.

My heart and wishes are for you guys.

peppy 01-27-2020 08:08 PM

I also am a father of micro preemies. Prayers for the little one and the rest of the family.

Sitting next to my healthy almost 17 year old daughter. She came into the world from and ecclamptic mom (my wife) and an emergency c section at 26 weeks. 1 pound 14 oz, dipped to 1 pound 9 oz. In NICU pretty much until her due date. It was a big scary thing, day by day. But miracles do happen and we are living proof. Be there for dad, its tough to hold it all together and then need to lose your s**t in a safe space.
