Air Force One livery

As long as I've been alive, it has been this design by Raymond Loewy.

POTUS wants a new design like this. It isn't bad, but looks rather derivative.

I think it is hard to beat the Loewy design.

Here is the original pre-Loewy livery.

No other airplane flying can be mistaken for Air Force One in its current livery. It just looks so majestic. The new design could pass for any other commercial plane.

Rusnak, the space forward of the hair needs to be orange colored, and there should be a yuuuugggeee image of a cell phone (possibly with Twitter bird symbols around it) on either side.

Maybe that could be a good thing?

Watched a show on planes once where they said that the more paint other than white, the heavier and less fuel economy. Maybe this paint scheme will reduce weight, therefore use less fuel?

The other benefit is safety. If someone was targeting AF1, it would be harder to pick out in the sky if it looks like commercial planes.

Blue paint weighs more than white paint? Who knew.

A way to use less fuel is to limit the President's non-essential excursions. That would save a LOT.

So it takes the guy above most of the video to finally give the simple answer. Heat. The same reason I prefer my white cars. 50 degrees cooler from black paint to white paint in full sun.

It is just staggering the costs of large airliners. The paint job can cost more than most people's houses. Of course they can just fill the fuel tanks and spend more than the average persons income for a year.

Golf is essential to this administration.

Why not go with polished aluminum? It would reflect heat and light, be weightless and look bad ass.

That was addressed in the video. American Airlines does or did use the polished Al look. But, Al corrodes, so they have to periodically polish the planes to keep the finish up. On top of that, apparently passenger's complained about glare.

In addition to heat, the white planes, supposedly, also show fluid leaks and cracks better.

Watch the video. He covers polished aluminum. The exposed metal is prone to corrosion and requires regular polishing that cost a lot. Pain protects the metal. Corrosion is a constant battle with aircraft.
