MY sister in Loomis has had issues with mountain lions in her area, one neighbor lost a goat, across the street lost some sheep. I was watching her place about 10 years ago when she was out of town. Found the carcass of a fawn that was mostly eaten, big kitty tracks around. Never saw much else, no marked up trees or anything.

I live 5 miles north of Disneyland. Plenty of housing around. We had a Mountain lion spotted mid day crossing 6lanes of traffic.

I have been a mountain biker and dirt biker. Had one tracking my wife and I we were out on our bicycles. It was on a hill 50yards up from us and tracked us for 50 to 70 yards.

My solution? 3 man teams. Pointman has a shotgun with Rubber buck shot. The other two with real buck shot. Poitman gets first go on the cats. If they run they get to learn men bring pain and avoid men. Those that don't they become rugs. Bobcats ? I've ridden by them laying in the trail. They just chill.

In Oklahoma the state once had a large population of Mountain lions or panther, cougar and puma. One was killed a few years ago that was preying on sheep. Shepherds don't much like that, so the state officials killed it.

Of course we used t have wolves and free roaming buffalo as well.

Best thing against tigers is to wear pants. I never once got attacked by a tiger and was wearing pants everytime.

Works for ocelots, too.

Live in the mountains of WA state. A year ago, within 500 ft of my house:
1) Kill one goat and Fish/Wildlife found a dead deer hidden in the snow nearby
2) Jumped fence and attached neighbors pit bull....Dog required 80 stitches.
3) Broad daylight, neighbor gathering firewood when he heard his dog yelp in his yard. Turned to see his dog being carried off.

Fish/Wildlife set traps, determined it was a big Cat and 2 Kittens.......
We keep our dog in after dark.

The easiest way to avoid being mauled by a cougar is to not drink and avoid fancy steakhouses on Thursday nights.

The human fear of being killed and eaten is somehow stronger than the fear of just being killed.

Damned if I know why...dead is dead, right?
