They laughed at me when I went out to the woods with a gun.

The 50 lbs of venison in my freezer is the last laugh.

Report from the Twincities:

Drove by a Target, Cub (grocery store) and Walmart last night. Parking lots not real busy, but probably busier than normal. Did not see any unusual shopping that I could tell. Saw six or seven people wearing masks. One person wearing gloves, I think. The Cub is normally open 24 hrs. It closed at 10pm. The Walmart normally closes at midnight. It also closed at 10pm.

Drove by the Cub and Walmart today about 3pm. Parking lots busier, though not packed. At the Walmart, about 1/3 of the shoppers coming out had 'excessive' amounts of TP or paper towels, sometimes it was hard to tell what they had. Saw three or four people with masks.

Bars, restaurants, and other similar businesses were closed as of yesterday. The MOA closed today at 5pm, or yesterday.

Governor's press conference. Testing is still backlogged. They/we have 1700 samples frozen for later testing.

out of fresh OJ so went to the "least organic" grocery store near me (called PC Market of Choice if you believe that - and owned by a local Republican too)

anywho... everything looked normal, plenty of everything (except the lack of pimento cheese mix they make is continuing)

but then I look at the bread aisle - only half full

just for fun I looked at the toilet paper area - all gone! still had napkins and paper towels (regular, or organic sustainable recycled paper ones - your choice)

then checked out the frozen foods - a few spot shortages there too but no biggie

So, there is some panic buying here - but given the propensity of the local denizens to PANIC!!! the odd thing is why it isn't worse??

In honor of St Patty's Day we had our own local potato famine

My local health food is out of bread, meat, water, frozen pizza. Only the high end organic juices and protects left on the shelf. They did have plenty of weigh your own grains, and snacks. That'll go soon.

Costco has shut down all food service besides pizza and hotdogs. No sitting area.

I bought a frozen pizza today and had some for tonight's dinner.

Stuffed crust too.

Our local Vons is mostly empty shelves but there is still a crap ton of food available if you want something different. I asked the checker on the way out what is the best time to look for bread...she said they open at 7 am but lines are forming at 5 am so GLWT. Haha...we are good to go and can do without bread and bottled water forever if necessary. Just got home with some good items to eat the next week (for 4) without having to reach into the vault :)

I hit up the Costco Business today, no TP or eggs but plenty of other items. Stopped by work and took 2 guys with me who had problems finding milk and other staples and one is vegetarian. You need an Executive Card to get in the business stores.

People still hoarding, just in much larger quantities. I convinced the vegetarian to go a little "Pescadarian" so he picked up salmon filets and frozen shrimp.

I'm telling you, TP is the least of my worries, I'll pick up a box of cloth rags from the paint dept at Home Depot and throw them in the washing machine and use them again.

I had no idea Costco had a business store. We need one of those here.

They have 10 gallon buckets of soy sauce, I shyte you not. You have to buy stuff in MUCH larger quantity.

They have whole pigs and lamb in the freezer section.

No real issues here still, my wife had to hit three stores but she got our entire normal shopping list. She said bread, milk, eggs, TP, and hand cleaning products were the most picked over. Kroger is advertising that they are hiring 10,000 people to stock shelves and serve customers during the virus.

I went to the liquor store (my hoard) and it was very quiet, still well stocked with a few bare spots. Grabbed Chipotle to go and it was pretty slow there too.

Finally went to my neighborhood market a few blocks away (Chicago has lots and lots of these) and everything was totally normal and in stock, except they were all cleaned out of tortillas, which made me smile because it was such a brown thing :) But they had plenty of Harina PAN, so I can still make arepas.

This has got to stop. I eat fresh as much as possible at all times. So I go to my market every few days. On todays trip I wanted to get a bit of fresh chicken and when I got to the cooler I had found the butcher had just filled the chicken case and one women was nearly clearing it out. She, I swear, had approx. 30 packages of chicken in her cart! And was going after more. Now I don't usually waste my breath on people like that but I was incensed. I did take a moment to check myself and then said " Lady the level of selfishness that you are displaying right now is beyond appalling". You don't need much imagination to guess her reply. I turned to the butcher and asked if they were contemplating a purchase limit and he said no. I grabbed what I needed, and only what I needed and left.

How sad a people we are.

Arizona_928 03-19-2020 08:48 AM

What are they going to do with that much chicken lol

Rikao4 03-19-2020 09:34 AM

Costco in San Marcos has lots of bread. I cruised in there Tuesday about 4:00. No lines to get in, very small lines at check out. They told me it's crazy in the morning, but early-mid afternoon it calms down.

Has anyone tried buying ammo?

I needed a change of scenery yesterday before the snow started and it was still in the low 60's temp wise so I took the motorcycle out. Swung by a few places and the ammo shelves were completely empty in all the popular calibers. So I took the chance to buy two boxes of 338 for my elk gun since that is usually gone prior to hunting season.
