"GE Imaging FE"
So cool. I started with GE Medical right out of high school in Milwaukee. Summer engineering student at headquarters in Milwaukee. They assigned me to a systems engineering function. I will never forget working on a new vascular imaging system-- I did not even know ohm's law. Anytime I was not in college or grad school at Dartmouth, I tried to work for GE in Milwaukee. That went on for six years. In the early days I had no car, so I carpooled with GE employees in my neighborhood. They were all executives. Learned a lot from all of that. I still have an x-ray from 1980 from our first DSA imaging system prototype. I did some HW design on that product (under supervision of course). My part required me to interface with what we called Field Service Development Engineering (FSDE). These folks were ensuring designs could be served properly (from a technical and business standpoint) and were concurrently developing service dox and training, et cetera. Anyway, that x-ray is of the then GE Medical Systems CEO, and taken in our systems engineering lab when he came down for a look-see. We did a crude simulation of a DSA procedure. That CEO went on to lead GE corporate R&D for Jack Welch. Taking that c-ray was a violation of federal regs, even back then. I learned a lot from all of that. And am eternally indebted to GE and the people that served as teachers and mentors. One of my contemporary student engineers went on to become GE Healthcare CTO, and was also CEO of one of their key big businesses. I also worked for Siemens and Acuson... Anyway, I appreciate what you and your colleagues are doing in this situation. All folks involved with the delivery of care, including those in supportive roles are heroes to me in the present circumstances.

The engineers are also, in some way 'on the front lines' of making lives better in times like this.

Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....
