"COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Project," or how I modernized the audio system in my '87 911 Carrera Coupe with no cutting or modification, and keeping it looking period correct. The key component is the relatively new Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB head unit (unfortunately only available from retailers across The Pond). It replicates the original, first produced in 1986, however lifting the mock cassette door reveals inputs for USB, SD card and phono plug. There is also a rear USB and mic input, along with excellent Bluetooth connection with smartphones and other enabled devices. The original Blaupunkt Reno is below, new Bremen is above.

The old wiring harness from the Alpine CD player that inhabited that spot for the last 27 years.

The new harness with soldered/shrink tubing wire splices, wrapped in cloth tape.

Next up, a subwoofer is a must, but where to put one was always a bit of a conundrum. Awhile back I found an excellent compact unit, the Kenwood KSC-SW11 and located the perfect spot under the passenger seat, it even has 3, pre-existing, treaded potential mounting points.

A 9x13" piece of 1/4" plywood was used with appropriate holes drilled.

Fits perfectly.

Because the new Bremen is not as deep as previous units, all wiring tucks neatly behind it.

Location of the microphone bug.

The final setup, display color and brightness custom tuned, phone Bluetooth linked and connected to the rear USB (data and charging) that was routed behind the dash and audio settings adjusted.

The sound is amazing, even with my many years old Polk Audio coaxial speakers. The bass is exceptional for the small package due to the solid mounting to the floorpan. And there you have it, a modern system with an '80s look.

Virtual Car Show additional photos of my '87 911 Carrera Coupe, unrestored, original, except for audio system, with 68K on the clock. I am the second owner, found by scouring the NY Times classified ads 27 years ago. Arguably "the best of the best," this car is a classic representation of the final G body 911 lineage, with the well sorted out, most reliable Porsche 3.2 litre engine, G50 gearbox and hydraulic clutch.

And now for a little 'Porsche Art'

Boxster S won the war

Ordered as a 2000, arrived as a 2001. K-Sport springs and struts, Eibach swaybars, Yokohama R series. All new suspension bars, bushings and joints.

120K miles on the clock, the front end got hit twice. The second hit totaled a 2016 minivan that cut in front of me(their tire ran over the top of my bumper, their passenger side doors would not open. Damage to mine was $4300, air bags didn't go off but the SRS light came on! Guards Red for the nose "easier to see" plus it mimics the paint jobs of many 356 race cars of their day. The rear color is the stock Arctic Silver

Every option except 18s and HID

Here is a series of garage shots of my freshly repainted 1973 911 E/RSR. I’ve owned this car for 14 years, and have just completed a full color change from light yellow to tangerine. My buddy Pete Knight, Phil and the team did the work at Pete’s shop in upstate NY. Pete’s critical eye for panel fit, correction and metalworking plus his painting skills are all simply first rate. Pete and I resonated on this project in many ways, and I found him to be an absolute pleasure to work with.

Talia’s rescue
Talia is a my MY 91C2 coupe. I say rescue because she was sorely mistreated the worst being painted blue in the late 90s. I inherited her from my youngest son. He discovered her original color was Mint Green and told me he just had to return her to that color. So his dream became mine. Since 2014 I dropped her engine to repair broken head studs.I then put new shocks and struts on. Then in Oct 2017 I started the process to return her to her original color. I first wet sanded the entire body then pulled her apart for a windows out respray.
Today I drove Talia for the first time since I started the painting processI have done all the work myself except help from my grandson Jordan who liked to spay water on her while I sanded away.

Total DIY project. ‘83 944. Started in Chicago in 2008 and now enjoying PCH rides in Southern California. Learning as I go with just about everything. Almost fully disassembled in 2010 and painted. Ceramic matte black. Powder coated rims and baked in the kitchen.
Made 3D cad models for the exterior door handle inserts. PORSCHE on one, 944 on the other. Next job is to get the AC working. Otherwise the interior is really clean. Really enjoying rides through Laguna, Newport and Huntington. Looking forward to getting to a Pelican in-person Coffee and Cars in the near future.
