Yikes. It sounds like the news reports kept you away, not some cosmic interference? That must've been a difficult few weeks/months/years to be so close to something so astonishingly surreal.

I've never seen that movie and now I must seek it out. For What It's Worth is the perfect background for the clip.
I was just eleven in 1970; a young observer of a new form of television news, where smart people were shining light into previously well-hidden corners, with some very interesting consequences.

A long, long time ago...but somehow still modern.

I'm not really a Hoople fan, but this was one of those songs that "the right people at the right party" could make a good memory from. Most of the MtH albums I heard only had one or two good songs if I recall (others would disagree, I'm sure), but obviously musically they were pretty top notch. They caught the ear of Bowie, after all.
