That would be fun!

They need to work on that interior. A ton of work already done.

"Unsafe at any speed"

Would be fun.

that is an out the box build. I like it . Always been curious about corvairs.

Calling Nick from Fort Collins, Corvair thread..

LEAKYSEALS951 04-18-2020 05:51 PM

I love seeing Corvairs at autocross events.
(but that brown 911 with the sunlight on the windshield is what catches my eye!)

edit- Look at the inner door handles! That's great... Must of had a donor car with parts falling off of it. And then the center shift console comes into view. Love it!

I learned to drive in a white 65 Corvair... It was a fun little car. I'll bet that one is a hoot!

Wow that is a serious project!

dafischer 04-18-2020 09:02 PM

Man, that must be a hoot with AWD. Take that, Ralph.

LWJ 04-18-2020 09:15 PM

That is just cool!

TRE Cup 04-18-2020 09:52 PM

The owner joined us on one of the Targa California events. Though a work in progress, you could see the tremendous amount of work and details that went into it. I think it is really cool.

Incredibly impressive

The second generation coupes are my favourite GM design of all time.

masraum 04-21-2020 07:45 AM

Many years ago, I wanted and thought about getting a Corvair, but at the time, I was poor and the parts were expensive and much harder to get than other cars so I passed. My dad had a couple/few when he was younger.

65 corvairs had a weak output shaft in the 4 speed it broke eazy and often
for 66 they fixed it by using vett guts in the 4 speed corvairs

so some clever guys made a kit to drop a v8 the backseat

Actually not vette guts instead the 66 used the weakest v8 4 speed in the GM line. That Saginaw trans was immensely better than the earlier Corvair only 4 speed.

Super! except for that steering wheel cover...that's not super but otherwise, terrific!

RSBob 05-22-2020 07:48 PM

I know this will not be a popular opinion because this is primarily a rear engine, air cooled tribe, but I have never been a fan of Corvair styling inside or out. Found it to be another stylistically bereft GM product. My uncle had one for many years and I found VW Bug styling superior. Putting 993 power and running gear as much a travesty as putting a jet turbine engine in a paddle wheeler. Oh yes it is an engineering feat, but it is still a stern wheeler. P.S. popularity is overrated except by the insecure.
