Life is weird. I thought that image of the corvette dealership looked familiar . Then I saw the snow on the roof. That place is John Sottile hobby cars in Martinsburg Pa. That is where I bought my first Corvette . It was probably the roughest car on his lot. Maroon 76 L48 4 speed car. We blasted out there after work one evening in my neighbors RX7. Alice in Chains dirt just came out, and I think my buddy made me listen to Rooster about 25 times on that trip . I gave the guy 200$ cash to hold the car, and we came back Saturday in my other buddies ratty old straight 6 F 250 with a car dolly . His truck sat up high, and the car dolly drug the ground. We threw sparks for 200 miles on the way home with the Vette loaded . We ground quite a bit of metal off that tow dolly .
I was really stoked to be a Corvette owner. I spent my whole summer painting, and rehabbing that car. |

I have one pic of it somewhere I will have to dig it out. It is sentimental . It was after the car was done in front of my shop, right after I opened up my biz . I had this chubby 13 year old Blonde Kid, named Donny, that would come hang out every day after school, he would do odd jobs for me and my landlord. He was a really sweet innocent, cute chubby teenager. We all had a ton of fun together, and I really liked him. I remember telling my gf at the time, that I felt like he was my son. I have this pic of him sitting in that car, with the biggest smile on his face .
He was an honer roll student at that time. , and a good kid He later found smack, and is no longer with us. Broke my heart. I stopped by his parents house not too long after his funeral to give them a copy of that photo |
Just get a 928 with a ls engine swap.
Big reds(or blacks), konis, and you'll have something close to current standards of fast. |

One of my "friends of a friend" always wanted a "ground pounding" car. He found a C3 Vette project car in his neighborhood. Someone had already transplanted a 454 with aluminum heads and high compression pistons and a hot can into the car, but the interior looked like a homeless person lived in it. He cleaned up the interior, and put some better brakes on it, and other tweaks to make it ready to go. It was a tire smoking monster. He never could get it run like it really should. The carburetor was over jetted, and the transmission had issues.
He finally had the itch scratched, and put it up for sale and some other 40 years old dude was all excited to get it and pour more money into it. Back in 1979 I lived in duplex. There was a couple next door that was in their 20s. His parents evidently had a lot of money, and he got a 1978 Indy pace car Vette as his daily driver. One day on the back porch we were chatting and he mentioned he had to pay $500 per MONTH for insurance. I was at a couple hundred per year for my 914 and wondered how anyone could pay as much for insurance as their rent payment. I did not have rich parents and I missed out on that lifestyle. |

Went to a neighbor’s house last night, he had a friend over with a Collector’s Edition C4. Cool looking on the outside but the interior looks like something I made in my garage. Scratch that, worse.
|
At least , some performance started to come back in the c4. It was still pretty gm craptastic though. Nightrider inspired gauges were awful

The rear suspension is interesting.
I don't were it came from but I have a memory of the leaf spring being made of fibreglass. This one looks like steel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590064753.jpg |
After a quick search. Looks like there are lots of options.

The C3 dash and interior is not remotely as bad as the C4. In fact, it's pretty nice by any standard. C3 Corvettes are good looking cars and no one disputes that an aftermarket exists for improving handling or increasing power but the OP concerned whether a stock one for $8k all-in would be a fun car. I would say a resounding no.
