Elissa is home from the hospital

Most understandably take fundamental life functions for granted. People with chronic illnesses may have never been afforded the luxury. It's difficult to imagine how genuinely life-altering this will be for Elissa. For me, the stethoscope image was particularly moving.

From now on, each time I see an ad for crab legs, I'll be reminded of her journey. Go E!!

For the first time in my life I told my parents to stop the car and let me out so I could go on a walk. So we walked through the botanical gardens at UNC today and it was gorgeous!! I didn’t even get out of breath once! I had so much energy I even wanted to do a cartwheel barefoot in the grass🤸🏼*♀️

These lungs are surprising me every day. It’s crazy what so many people take for granted. I’ve never just decided to do something and just do it!

I think you'll be among the wise souls who embrace & savor those "simple" but precious aspects of being here...things like watching tree swallows fly in & o8ut of a bird house, feeding their young. That was my "simple" thing today, as I took a break from lawn mowing..

MR Gary - thank you for allowing us to follow along on Elissa's difficult journey, and God bless her in her continued recovery.

I'll try hard not to get political or religious in what follows: suffice it to say we have phenomenal medical sciences and medical care in this country. I know it's not cheap and I know it has its warts, but life-saving procedures on the young are at the top of (at least my) list of how limited funds should be spent, and I'm proud that she was able to get the lifesaving procedures she needed.

I have no idea what where you and your followers are on the spectrum that runs from atheism to devout, but as for me, when I see the love and caring and devotion you have for your daughter, for me - that's the face of God. I believe I will be judged for how I behaved in this life - and I can only hope I've ever acted with even a small percentage of the care and devotion Elissa's parents have done for her.

I'll stop now. I guess I was moved by your post...
