There wasn't any secret about the B-52 landing gear. In fact, in the 1957 film 'Bombers B-52' (stale movie but some nice B-52 footage) the landing gear operation was showed off to audiences of the time.

I’ve been under a B52, landing gear is crazy especially when you think about the fact it was designed in 1952
