In '84 I ran over a piece of exhaust which fell off the car ahead. It tumbled and struck the diesel fuel tank on my Rabbit. We were headed for the ferry and just before we boarded, I advised the loadmaster we had a leak. He said " No problem. Just identify your car to the deck crew. "
One of the crew grabbed a square of cardboard and a bar of Ivory soap. Lying on the cardboard, he reached under and rubbed the soap on the weeping fissure in the front of the tank and the leak stopped. It took a month before the replacement tank could be installed but it never leaked a drop in that time.

That's fascinating! And it supports the story.

back to the story, I would have thought that anything on the motor would have been too hot. I'd assume soap would soften and melt at temp like a wax. Muy interesante!

I tried some dawn, but it didn't stop my leak!

In the 1950s and 1960s, Jaguar seamlessly combined art with engineering. This era of cars was both stunning to drive and look at and this carried on through every element of the cars. The XK engine is an example of this. The revolutionary twin overhead cam engine was designed and developed by the Jaguar/SS team during the Second World War when the Jaguar factory was being used for the war effort. The aim was to produce an engine which produced higher than normal output so would be able to outperform the completion for many years to come and which ‘looked good’. It was then launched in 1948 in the first prototype XK120 at the London Motor Show and the engine delivered on all counts.
The performance from an XK engine was incredible for the time and even a 3.4 litre powered car remains swift by modern motoring standards. The engine was such a success it remained in production in various forms all the way up to 1992. It also looks stunning in the engine bay, particularly with the smooth cam covers fitted to XKs and early E-Type.
Pictured here is the rather attractive cylinder head of an XK150 engine which is currently being rebuilt in the workshop.

That photo might be a bit misleading as to the size of the shark. I'm guessing that the animal is much closer to the camera than the diver. A little Photoshop work could've been involved as well.

Then the last time or maybe last few times that I remember going, I think we were living in Pensacola, FL in the early 80s, and there was a large restaurant area with many tables. Then there was a separate room that was still pretty big that had 5-8 arcade games and one or two pinball games. I think they had Lady Pacman, and they had Berzerker.

Marshall Space Flight Center director Dr. Wernher von Braun (right) reviews orbital mechanics calculations for a translunar space vehicle trajectory simulation with Dr. Helmut Hoelzer (left), director of the computation division, and Dr. Eberhard Rees, deputy director for research and development at the MSFC Computation Division lab, Huntsville, Alabama, USA, June 15, 1960.
They are using a 36-bit IBM 7090 second-generation computer the first "standard" 7090 to be put into operation since serial number 1 came off the assembly line and was installed in December 1959 at Thule BMEWS Air Base in Greenland. At a press conference earlier that day, Dr. von Braun said. "In a decade," he added, "computers have developed from a curiosity and convenience in space vehicle design to an integral, indispensable element of our work" An impressive array of computing power is found at MSFC - power which establishes the center's computer facility as the largest, by far, in the southeast United States. In mid-June, the 7090 was operating in one of two large adjoining rooms which also housed an IBM 704, 705, and 709. Elsewhere in the Huntsville complex five Burroughs 205s, 10 Royal McBee LGP-30s, four IBM 610s, three Burroughs E-101s and a Bendix G-15 were helping to meet the center's computational demands. The center also maintains a 205 at Cape Canaveral. The 704 and 709 were replaced by a second 7090 on July 21. Eight IBM 1401s are on order and the division will get a second 705 in September. Four of the 1401s will support the 7090s and four will back up the 705s. The mission of the Computation Laboratory was the application of computing science and techniques in the field of guided or ballistic missiles and space vehicles.

Sylvania MOBIDIC (MObile DIgital Computer)
Was a 36-bit fully transistorized 3rd generation mobile computer intended to store, sort and route information as one part of the U.S. Army Signal Corps FIELDATA concept aimed to automate the distribution of battlefield data in any form, ensuring the delivery of reports to the proper recipients regardless of the physical form they were sent or received. The 32,000 transistor AN/MYK-1 MOBIDIC was deployed in 1958, mounted in the trailer of a semi-trailer truck, while a second supplied power, allowing it to be moved about the battlefield.
FIELDATA was a pioneering computer project run by the US Army Signal Corps in the late 1950s that intended to create a single standard (MIL-STD-188A) for collecting and distributing battlefield information. In this respect it could be thought of as a generalization of the US Air Force's SAGE system that was being created at about the same time. Much of the FIELDATA system was the specifications for the format the data would take, leading to a character set that would be a huge influence on the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) a few years later. We have lots of wild flowers for bees and even milkweed for monarchs. If insects were like livestock, we'd be rich. When we mow, you're constantly being hit by wayward grasshoppers.

Campbell's "66" Express trucking which was frequently seen on old Route 66. Campbell’s “66” Express was known throughout the Midwest for its mascot – a camel named Snortin’ Norton – and its slogan – “Humpin’ to Please.”
Campbell’s “66” Express, Inc. was founded by Franklin George Campbell in Springfield, Missouri, in 1926. The company was initially named Campbell Fuel and Transfer but transitioned to trucking in 1933 when a banker asked Campbell if he would take over Rapid “66” Express, an ailing trucking company in the area. Rapid “66” Express operated from Springfield to St. Louis, Missouri along Route 66. Campbell agreed, and Campbell’s “66” Express was formed. Campbell’s “66” Express could not survive the deregulated environment, and in 1986, the company declared bankruptcy. At the time of its bankruptcy, Campbell’s “66” Express had 42 terminals in 13 states and employed roughly 1,300 people.

I remember going to Shakey's as a kid with my parents. When I was really young, they always had pinball machines.

Family used to go to Shakeys when we lived in Van Nuys. Straw hats and player pianos, good times.

it kinda looks like "the plains" or "a clearing" but there are trees in it.

There needs to be empirical data and correct assesment of al parameters.

I see your point. The area 20 yards to his left could be construed as "the woods" and and he is obviously not in that particular area. He appears to be in a recovering clear cut, which was once "the woods". So, is a processed logging area still "the woods"? Back to the old chalk board I guess.
The question about this guys posterior seems a little more "clear cut"
