I remember reading an article years ago that said that they were actually able to be made into a decent handling little car, but I don't remember any of the details. "IMSA" and "ready for Daytona" Can you imagine taking a Pinto to the 24 hours of Daytona?
I wonder how good they are. It would be funny to build one if you could actually be competitive at auto-X or irritating at DEs.

Per my BIL, there was a whole "sub-cult" of SCCA Pinto racers in and around Pennsylvania back in the day.

That pinto belongs to a buddy , Jerry (Racer Walsh) was also a friend of mine. One year at the HSR races, Brian Walsh passed a buddy who was driving a fresh 911S. And when I told him that he got passed by a Pinto, he said

a very fast Pinto.
There is a huge support for those cars, more than you would think.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1631831827.jpg

Brian is also the one who replicated the Dan Gurney for president decals I have on a few of my cars.

The # 93 Pinto was at Lime Rock Historics two weeks ago. Very good team effort and well-driven car. I used to buy pinto parts from them in the early 70s when they were located in suburban Washington DC. My first car: 71 pinto with a rippin 2000cc engine. Headers from the JC Penny catalogue, an Offenhauser manifold, and minilites with goodyear redstripe tires! Hard time impressing the girls when those monster camaros and chevelle muscle cars were roaming the streets. woohoo

When you come through town, I'll take you to meet Brian, he is a very skilled driver in his own right. His father was a very interesting person, I use to bartend parties he hosted.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1631839135.jpg

Too bad about the stem not being aerodynamic.

svandamme 09-17-2021 04:33 AM

calling BS on that claim
There's nobody more in tune with aerodynamic drag then F1 and WEC racing..
Nobody spends more on R&D and modeling the mirror for desired optimal airflow..
So i'm pretty sure their mirrors will be as good as it gets

And Since when does NASA spend time developing rear view mirrors for their rockets or lunar rovers??http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1631881926.jpg
