Very cool! I liked the way the guys at Pixar gave a nod to him in "Monsters Inc". Harryhausen's is the sushi restaurant that Mike Wazowski takes his girlfriend Celia Mae to for her birthday dinner.

Google says Clash of the Titans 1981 was the last film to use Harryhausen's stop motion effects. It was special stuff. I remember seeing his work in 1966-68 or so when his movies were shown at our local elementary school.

Here's an interesting video that shows the benefits of 8x as many frames/second (or maybe just 24fps to 120fps, the info contradicts itself):

My favorite stop motion work was done by Nick Park, who did Creature Comforts and the three original Wallace and Gromit movies. I named my dog Gromit after his character.

Yes sir and I picked those up because of your recommendation a few years ago - great stuff!

Gromit is such a great name for a dog.

While on the subject, while watching a Bond movie last night, I got the idea of "Moneypenny" as a name for a future dog of mine.

Good friend of mine's dog is named "Penny".......:)

Moneypenny would be an excellent name for a doggie- I agree. Grommie was a great dog for 11 years. He didn't make it through some "routine" surgery. Bummer, but you take what you can get. Miss him!

Terrible way to lose your buddy. I'm sure he knew he was loved and well cared for. That's all we can do.

Mine turns 17 next year. Can't hear anymore so this is her when I get home.....;)

I got one that turned 17 about a week ago. Mostly blind and deaf, stumbles easily, and sleeps a lot. He’s my heart. Here he is at the other end of the last 17 years. Doesn't look much different now.

Ours, asleep next to the door, does not wake up when somebody enters. Pretty deaf.

Crazy bit of trivia, but a guy who used to do the Wallace and Gromit show was a Porsche guy. He was on one of the early incantations of the porschephiles mailing list.
