Ford introduced the wrist twist steering for cars. "Introduced in 1965, despite better visibility, a roomier cabin and allowing you to drive with your arms on armrests it never went beyond the testing stage."

A 1932 American Bantam that was used for ferry service over the Pudding River in Oregon. The operator removed the tires and placed rubber bands on the rims for traction. Three cables were strung, two for the wheels and the third attached through the top of the car for stability. It was said that one gallon of gas was enough for 1500 trips across the 120 foot span.

The front nose wheel of the YB-35 flying wing. The XB-35 was to be decked out with an arsenal that included a 4,500-kilogram bomb load and seven powered turrets employing 20 mm cannons. What a freaky aircraft!

The Psycho house was one of the big draws of the Universal Tram Tour back in 1964, and continues to be the subject of much interest even now.
Over the years the house has been through a number of alterations and has even completely moved location twice after construction.
The Psycho house was built from a number of Universal’s stock units to save money. The front of the house and the distinctive tower was the same as that used in the “Harvey” house on Colonial Street.
Originally it consisted of just the left wall and the front of the house. In 1963 (photos below), the other side wall was added, and then in 1983, the rear of the house was added.
The house set has been moved three times since it was originally built.

Frank Lloyd Wright with his 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300B sedan (1956). He also had a 300SL Gullwing. These cars were given to Wright as part of his fee for designing an import car dealership on Park Avenue in New York for Max Hoffman-- as well as Hoffman's personal home in Rye, New York. Wright had a lifelong love affair with cars-he even took a stab at designing them at one time.

Some how Joe Clark HBSS (The Hillbilly Snapshooter) got by with the reputation of not being a very technical guy who shot only black and white with a Brownie Box Camera. Closer to the truth was The Master who collected many cameras and lenses and modified and used each camera to it full or a new potential. Gathering his cameras for this photo I always remember him saying he regretting about missing 3 more cameras that we found after making this photo. Photo by: Junebug Clark. 1960s

Diner on Route 40.
Near New Castle, Delaware. 1939
Just 25 years after the Wright brothers launched modern aviation, Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 trans-Atlantic flight caused a world-wide sensation. It also sparked formation of more than 50 U.S. aircraft manufacturers in 1928 alone, but many of these “Lindbergh boom” companies folded during the 1930s Depression. One was General Airplane Corporation of Buffalo, NY that formed in 1928, but had downsized by 1930 into a single hanger at Roosevelt Field on Long Island (coincidentally, the departure-point for Lindberg’s New York-to-Paris flight).
Northern Delaware was an early aircraft industry hotbed. This diner was near Bellanca Field, home of the innovative Bellanca Aircraft Corporation, a 1922 start-up. Hundreds of its planes remain in service today. The aircraft (minus engine) lodged in this diner as a marketing ploy was the very last of the 43 “Aristocrat” planes manufactured by General Airplane in New York. General’s “Aristocrat” copied several features of a successful Bellanca airplane built in Delaware, so perhaps this simulated crash was Bellanca’s sly dig at their failed competitor.

A special bearing in the hinge allows a single person to open or close the concrete-filled door, which was used to shield the Rotating Target Neutron Source-II (RTNS-II) -- the world’s most intense source of continuous fusion neutrons.
