I LOVE the old 911 gauges and dash!

One day, I'd like to buy a bunch of the gauges and create/cut out a reasonable facsimile of the dash to hang them on a wall or put them on a shelf.

This is my car, and strangely enough, now it is configured exactly perfect in my opinion. :cool:

I love the calibrated temperature gauge, the volt meter on the tachometer. The volt meter right in front of me is comforting.

Oh, and I did buy the "kit" to upgrade all the lights to the proper LEDs so I can actually read the gauges at night.

My car, is set up the way I like from bumper to bumper.

Especially the thermo-meter in the vent (I have one of those too.)
Does seem that it would be set up even better if it had a steering wheel, but who am I to judge ;)

I always thought that voltmeter mod was a good one. Having the temps on the temp gauge is good, but once I found out that the temps were there (but tiny and at the edge) I was satisfied.

I also tilted my tach and speedo (same tilt for both) which put redline at TDC and made the normal speed easier to see.

Cool, now can you take a sawzall and cut off the dash and send it and the gauges to me. I'll mount it on a board and display it nicely. Although I may replace the LEDs with something that doesn't require 12V.

Earlier this year I was wondering if the guy was still racing and looked him up. Apparently, he died of colon cancer. Then in the search, one of the links was to an article, his son, that I'd gone to college with (nice guy, but we weren't close) had started drag racing bikes and then got into an accident on the way from the track and died. I'm guessing he was about 35 at the time.

well factually incorrect since Niels Bohr was Jewish, and i'm sure you'll be aware that Jewish people didn't stay in their house during WW2 in Nazi Occupied territories.
you either fled or were taken away from your house.

In his case he fled in 1943 (quite late actually), to the US and worked on the Manhattan Project only to return mid 1945 .

To follow up Seahawk's post about "the first time":

Decades ago in a different career, I worked for a fire sprinkler manufacturer and we were developing some of the first "life safety" heads. Earlier sprinklers were primarily intended to protect property and could require 2-5 minutes of exposure to heat before they go off.

Those small diameter glass bulbs are a key technology in the "fast response" life safety sprinklers.

As part of my job, I got to do forensic investigation of allegedly defective products. That's potentially pointless when you get a sprinkler frame with no glass bulb or plug and a claim that it "just went off".

One other point - the water in fire sprinkler systems is typically quite stagnant and black with oxygen depleted iron oxide. It instantly stains anything it touches.

So I got a frame from a sidewall sprinkler and a claim for a couple million dollars in damages. It seems that this head had gone off while a world famous fashion designer had an entire show's worth of dresses in a Manhattan hotel room. We didn't just roll over on claims of that size, our guys asked for photos and we got them.

Under the activated sprinkler in question there was a pure white outline of a wedding dress on the wall - surrounded by black. We didn't pay a dime on that claim.

That's when hotels started putting up little signs next to the sprinkler heads warning not to hang anything from them.
