Here is an early 1950s photo along Route 66 at the Summit of Cajon Pass, California. The Buick pulling a trailer has a desert water bag hanging from their front bumper which was the right thing to do back then when driving in the desert when the radiator would overheat. It looks like their trailer is called "The Magic Carpet."

Harrisburg, now in Death Valley National Park, never amounted to much more than a tent camp. Pete Aguerreberry lived at the site for four decades however, working his Eureka mine until his death in the 1940s.

You'de think that kind of tech is closely guarded in the USA and kept in house ?!

I was thinking the same thing, but there are other considerations I suppose.

You got to hand it to Mr. Goldfinger- he sure knew how to kill people. Shirley is still kicking at 85 now.

While attending 9th grade while living on Guam, my Industrial Arts (Shop) class had a field trip to tour the USS Proteus. The ships hold seemed to be an enormous machine shop. One of the lathes had to be well over 100 feet long. We wanted to get on one of the subs parked along side but of course that was not allowed.

The outer guy on the port side boom is probably cleaning it off, mainly salt from the air at night when things get damp or adding a new mooring line? The small boats under the booms are the ship's boats, used for taking the CO around or people on liberty. He is probably a boats'n 3rd class or able seaman.
Here is me with my daughter that was born in 1976, this was taken in Bremerton WA.
