I added eggs and some dairy (ice cream!) to my diet do no longer vegan but largely plant based.

These are just some of the Vietnamese restaurants near my house. :)

We eat at a few of these places regularly. Always great service and they like their customers.
(You can't always say that about a Chinese restaurant )

Try using a slow cooker for the broth. I use chicken thighs and chicken bone broth

I truly enjoy Pho. And alliteration: I don't like Pho in a bowl. I prefer my Pho cupped. SmileWavy

I'd like to try Pho. Just so I get my pronunciation right; I go in and ask for "A bowl of poo"?

sc_rufctr 06-27-2020 09:23 PM

We pronounce it as "p-oh"... As in P followed by the Oh sound.

Bill Douglas 06-27-2020 09:38 PM

Thanks. I'll report back later in the week how it was. see how it compares with Cambodian.

Most Americans pronounce "fo" as in "fo sure"

It's actually "fuh" as in WTF without the hard k at the end.

Yes! If your Viet friend says it, it still is different. So they will still laugh at you but with a little more respect. ;)

Ugh, that's not what I would have added first. I'd go with egg whites and low fat cottage cheese first. :) It is probably subject for another thread, but interested to hear about your health results from the diet change, it has been 6+ months? Weight loss? Blood levels?

Cheers,

G

I hope this doesn't sound racist but...

Every Vietnamese person I've met is decent and hard working. They're proud of their heritage and always polite.
They like to negotiate hard but once you've reached a deal with them they honour it.

We have lots in Adelaide. Most came here after the end of the war.

Ya racist bastard! Certainly brings some great food to the city. I think I'd enjoy that sort of food sitting outside at a Viet' restaurant during a 35 degrees evening in beautiful Adelaide.

Lost about 8 lb. Blood sugar stayed about the same because I have time to bake bread.

Awesome. I'd love to. Bad timing on my part choosing a day when you were in Darwin, but had a great day.

sc_rufctr 06-28-2020 01:28 AM

I wish I was in Darwin... Been stuck at home since the lock down. :(

We love making pho at home. Thuy cheats and starts the broth in the pressure cooker so it takes 4 hours instead of 12. Comes out very good and rich!

Ziggythecat 06-28-2020 04:40 AM

What’s a restaurant, mommy ?

Shaun @ Tru6 06-28-2020 04:55 AM

I am fortunate that Boston has a wide variety of restaurants serving pretty much authentic cuisines from around the world. If anything we are lacking great Mexican but anything Asian is top shelf if you know where to go. Have loved pho for years. I liked this video on proper pronunciation.
