Spray on oil.
Do you guys know of an OK spray on oil for general lubricating jobs around the house and car?
The best one I use is Wurth HHS 2000. Common around NZ is CRC 5.56 but this seems to dissolve and wash out any oil there may already be in there. Is WD-40 any good for lubricating? I'd like something as good as 3-In-ONE oil, but with the convenience of being in a spray can. |

I like this one for the house. NO smell....
Jig-A-Loo - invisible silicone-based lubricant and water-repellent!

When I was working, Wurth HHS 2000 was a staple in our shop. Loved that stuff. Comes out of the can liquidy and gels up so it stays put and lasts. Good product.

it is a clear spray grease
I would not use WD-40 except to Displace Water - it does have a very light oil in it tho |

This is my current favorite. It spreads nicely for locks, hinges, mechanisms, and tends to stay in the game a long time. When I pull and lube my sliding glass door wheels they glide silently for several years.

If you want it to be more like a grease, then CRC Red Grease, it's in a spray can, but almost immediately gels up and becomes something like wheel bearing grease, but at the tip of the tube...where you point it...

Thanks so much guys! More to look into. I learnt about the Wurth HHS 2000 here on Pelican and it's been great. Just looking for something a bit thicker.

WD silicone is thinner but good for locks and hinges because it does not attract dirt, and does not damage rubber, paint, or plastic.

It lasts for months, not years, on the sliding door but is my go-to for almost everything. Only Ace carries it around here.
I use WD-40 for locks. Things can get gummy in the winter.

About 4 careers ago, I worked for a welding supply house. We had a thing called the "Zoom Spout Oiler." Stupid name. Yes. Worked really well.
Seems they are still around: https://www.amazon.com/Supco-CE441-Zoom-Spout-Oiler/dp/B00DM8JK2G |

this thread got me all excited, so I just went thru both my 1/2" Snap-Off ratchets and sprayed Wurth HHS-2000 in them
SL710 from 1985 and a 71-10 from late 1930s or 1940s with either no date code or one I can't figure out... |

Balistol. I did an experiment with that stuff. On my French doors facing the sea I put balistol on one side's hinges and 3-in-one on the other side. The balistol lasted about three months and the 3-in-one about one month.

Ballistol contains medicinal grade mineral oil, alkaline salts of oleic acid, several alcohols, Benzyl Acetate and an oil from vegetal seeds. The mineral oil is unchlorinated and conforms to the specifications of US Pharmacopeia XX. As an aerosol Ballistol contains 33.8% VOCs. As a non-aerosol it contains 5.3% VOCs.
