Well, I sure as heck am not sending it to Geneve based on that latest info. There is an indy guy near me that comes highly recommended by a watch/car friend of mine. I was in contact with him a few years ago about servicing the watch, but never pulled the trigger since I was so nervous about mailing it to him. He services very high end watches from around the country and only works on past customers or personal referrals. Looks like it is time to get in touch to see if he is still in the business.

Yeah, that looks like a 6265, not a 6263. It’s similar to the one I had.

I would suggest that you see if Eric has any good sources for an independent service guy.

And also call Rolex and see what they say about the other watch, that one may be old enough for it to know longer be serviced the US, either.

Sorry to get you excited the other day.

My story is similar, Dad had a early 60s Omega Connie that Is now mine, had Jack clean that up. When I was a younger atty, bought the Seamaster after my first reasonably large contingent fee.

Several years ago, I bought a used Tag Formula 1. I thought the bezel was set and did not rotate, but that didn't make sense to me. Kept trying to move it and it moved a fraction of a mm. Dhot some PB blaster under the bezel and let it sit face down for an hour or so. Came back and it wiggled a little more so I kept working it. It finally came loose and works like a charm.

Dropped this off to my watchmaker last week. He was supposed to take the movement apart to find the correct balance staff to replace the broken one. No way was I sending it to Rolex as they would fix it with new parts...and keep the wonderfully designed old ones. I have a spiderweb 5513 that I won't send to Rolex for the same reasons.

I have a $29 Timex I've worn every day for 25 years. Had to by a new strap at Walmart once.

Happened to see an episode of Antique Roadshow just last night. Guy bought a Daytona Chronograph back in 1973 for $525. It was in almost new condition, original alligator(lizard) band. He said he still wears it once a month or so. Had original box, case, and invoice. He about dropped to the floor when the appraiser told him it was worth about $100k.

Was that the one where the guy was in the military in Vietnam when he bought it?

Yes, that was the guy. I don't have all his documentation, but have the original invoice, box, and two manuals.

No, this was a different guy and watch. This guy was a private pilot and bought it in '73.

Here's the one you might be thinking of- guy was stationed in Thailand.
The roadshow estimate was $500-700k.
