G'day!

I followed a white 911 Carrera Cab a little earlier...
It was a 3.2 Carrera cabriolet. No pics - his privacy is preserved.
![]() Saw him two cars ahead at the US1 traffic light and when the light changed, the vehicle in front of him turned, he went straight, the vehicle in front of me turned, which put me right on his 6 with no one in front to block him - perfect! He got on it just enough to award my ears with those sweet notes! He turned down a driveway and I just kept going. What an iconic machine. I can't wait to get my 911 back on the road. It will be awhile but I miss that flat 6! To all of you with 911's......think of me a little next time you gun that engine and generate a huge grin....

Get off my lawn!

I know many people think a low throaty V8 or V12 makes great noises, and they do. BUT I am possibly just a little tiny bit prejudiced, but the BEST engine noise is a flat 6 at full song. I have listend to mine for 12 hours straight on many long road trips. I get to my motel, check in, and then jump back in the car to go find a local family owned restaurant in whatever city I am in, and smile when I hear that sound.

What does your old girl need Baz?
I had mine running last season. Started it up this spring, then decided to start putting all the hvac stuff back in, and it sits as another stalled project for now . Mine was somebody's De, track toy from southern california before I owned it . No heat, no ac , cage, headers etc.. I used it for the same basic thing for 10 years, then just kind of put it off to the side while I concentrated on other things in my life . It was my first 911, and will always be with me , I kept this car when I did not have $100.00 to pay the light bill at the shop and will keep it long past any of the others . I have been slowly putting it back to basic stock . I put all the interior panels back in, pulled the cage, put a street friendly exhaust with SSI's back on etc. LIttle bit every season, as time allows. I can't wait to paint/restore it . Its my one big bucket list thing before I croak

Back when I was doing Driver's Ed with the PCA I'd drive up and back to Roebling Road mostly I-95 Interstate and at one point I put a dual tailpipe exhaust on and wow that sound was intoxicating while passing traffic on the way home. That was my first Porsche - the '81 SC Targa. Quote:
My '83 sat for a while and developed some corrosion issues on the body and of course the engine needed help. It ran when I parked it. It's at my mechanics now - he's doing the engine and some of the body stuff but not all. Just enough to get it driveable again. He's already torn down the engine - of course lots of snapped cylinder head studs...lol. His son helps him and was there when we were talking about it and I remember him saying "They all do that...every one!"...lol. He's right because I went through the same thing with my '81. It will be towards the end of the year I'm sure before we get close but that's cool - it's in good hands for now. Please keep us posted on your 911 and I will as well.

Here's where things get interesting.
This morning I went back over to Mom's to do some more work. On my way there, I took Riverside Dr. to check the guy's property out from that side. It looked really nice - fitting in well with the historic district. On to Mom's - got that done - on my way home decided to take the same road as yesterday - Faulkner St. that he turned off and into his drive. As I was slowly going by - there he is. Walking by the side of his house with a screwdriver and something else in his hand. He notices me as I try to catch his eye. He looks over and I say "I followed you yesterday just to hear that sweet flat 6 exhaust music." He broke out in a big smile and walked over. He said - you know that's a special car. They only made them from '84 to '89. It's called an M491. A Turbo Look 911...no wonder I was attracted to it! Has a stainless steel exhaust apparently. Nice guy - we chatted for about 15 minutes and then agreed one day maybe when it gets cooler we'll get together and drive each other's cars around a bit...lol. I told him about the forum here and my thread. If you see this Mike, good meeting you today! NICE RIDE!

Years ago I was following my wife home from a party in the 911 --she was in her convertible GT Mustang. As we turned a corner --I gunned it to catch the light and she later reported how cool the porsche at song sounded as it passed her.
Later we swapped and I got the on core performance as she passed ==AND yes that is one sweet sound -gotta agree. Mflo

If you’re going to go around correcting people’s spelling on here you’ve got a full time job.
Good luck with that. Tony |
