The best consumer mask is N95, with the check valve.
It only filters incoming air and allows the free expelling of unfiltered lung gasses. It is 95% effective for the particle sizes rated for. (meaning 5% still gets through, and the remaining 95% build up on the mask itself)

Get off my lawn!

The mask my wife bought for us at the beginning of the Wuhan Flu problem has a activated charcoal insert on the inside of the mask. We pull that out to wash the masks, and we change them after a while. It had a valve, but my glassed sure fog up so I know it leaks at the top.

I see people wearing masks with the port/check valve, but that defeats the reasons for wearing a mask when social distancing isn't possible.

Seriously? Or do you believe that surgical masks don't vent off the edges? BTW, those M95 vents vent downward.

since being out of work, i’ve been cycling a lot. i don’t wear a mask. a few months ago i was at the park stopping for some water and another cyclist came down the park road all alone wearing a mask and i thought damn that’s stupid and really paranoid. as the weeks have gone by and i think of the hundreds of miles i’ve put in riding past dog walkers and stroller pushers, i gotta wonder if i’m dooming myself but who the hell wants to wear a mask on a bicycle. i might as well stay home.

low likelihood from just riding past someone
riding behind for a prolonged period = more risky wind will disperse the cloud of virus laden droplets the real problems happen indoors where a lot of people are yelling and talking loudly - say at a bar in s. Dakota ... |

Just bought some stuff at Target.
Pains me to see a senior citizen working the self checkout lines helping customers not social distancing but yeah, wearing a mask mask mask. Hope she doesn't think it protects her. |
