The Remington thread seemed like it had potential for making a turn sideways so I thought I'd start this one.

I've been searching for 9mm bullets and small pistol primers. I stumbled on Rocky Mountain Reloading and bought 1000 of their 124gr Round tip bullets. RMR sells other brands but makes the particular bullet I bought. They are on backorder but I was told I should have them by late September or early October. Price was $85 shipped.

Small pistol primers? "out of stock" everywhere I've looked. The local places that sell reloading supplies have no idea when they'll be getting any in.

On 9mm rounds, prices are all over the board IF they're even available. I bought 200 rounds for $44 at Stock and Field (formerly Big R) but those sold out fairly quickly even with a two box limit. I bought 100 rounds a week earlier for $36 which is nuts but I was out driving around and figured I might as well grab some when I saw them.

I figure more eyes might be helpful for those who don't shop the net several times a week like I do. If I find bullets or primers I'll post to let others know. If you find something, don't hesitate to post where. I don't know what the regulations are on shipping things like primers but if I can find some that someone else needs I'd be glad to grab them for you.

This is why I try to keep 4,000 of everything I need on hand when prices are low and supplies are plentiful. I can go a few years of reloading without needing to buy anything.

This is not the year to stock up. I've been shooting 22, and 12ga until things calm down.... Just in case I need my real bullets

I would have if Stock & Field would have let me. Hell, I told a guy at Dunhams "if you know how many boxes of 9mm you have coming in, I'll just pay ya for them now".

I learned my lesson during the Great Obama Gun Scare. Prior to that, I had always purchased my reloading supplies pretty much as needed, never "stockpiling" anything. And I ran out of everything, for a good long time. Never again. My "resupply" lower limit on primers is when they drop below five bricks. The powders I use the most are now purchased in eight pound kegs, and when the last one gets opened another gets purchased. The few jacketed bullets I use are resupplied if they drop below 500 on hand. Casting all of my pistol and revolver bullets, along with over half of my rifle bullets helps.

I now have enough on hand to where I no longer actively look for anything. I'll just wait for things to calm down again, and once again start building inventory. If I happen to see a brick of primers when I'm in one of my local gun stores, so be it - I'll buy whatever it is. Even if I don't "need" it right now. I hate to be that way, I really do, but I won't be caught without for an extended period of time ever again.

I learned my lesson the same as Jeff. I don't shoot as much and I don't stockpile as much but I'm in good shape for a long time.

With that said, while we don't have the bargains that we had last year, there is still manufacturing and importing and you can buy what you need if you know where to look.

I'm hoping to find some primers. Once my lead comes in I should be set. I have a line on all the free brass I want. A good friend teaches CC classes. It's good to have friends!

My neighbor just returned from vacation near the Outer Banks. He saw a small Rod n Gun and went in. He bought 2000 primers!

I'm down to my "safety stock" of factory loads and so just practicing with .22 which I have plenty. If the shortage lasts much longer I won't be able to practice handgun I'll need to go play with the .223.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to dig out my reloading stuff and put some 9mm target/practice loads together. I keep the reloading tools and supplies in my old Navy footlocker that lives in my shop. Once I dragged it out and started digging, I found several thousand primers in various sizes, about 1200 pieces of 9mm brass, four or five different powders and a few hundred jacketed 9mm bullets! So, out comes the old RCBS single stage press and the other tools. Ok, ready to prep the brass for reloading....nope, can't find my 9mm shell holder! So, the next day I trekked up to my LGS to look thru his limited supply of RCBS stuff. After going thru several stacks of shell holders, I found one 9mm shell holder! Anyway, I zipped on home and started the process of resizing/depriming the brass cases, cleaned the primer pockets and flared the cases. I decided to use Winchester W231 powder and set the scale accordingly. After a few hours work over 2-3 days, I wound up with about 600 rounds of fresh 9mm! Perfect timing as there will be a steel plate match in about 10 days! I will need to order some more jacketed bullets but at least they are easier to find than primers!

Arrived today! Still haven't found small pistol primers!

I bought 900 rds of a mix of 9mm and .45ACP today for $440. At this point, it's more a matter of availability over price. A local store seems to always have 9mm in stock, but has a two box limit. $20 each. So basically $400 for 1000, which is pretty good these days. I make sure to grab two boxes each time I'm in that area. I have many thousands of several calibers, but there's just no downside to getting as much as I can house.

I just ordered a 7.62 NATO caliber rifle. Because the ammo doesn’t seem as panic-prone as 5.56 mm.

My next handgun is going to be some less popular caliber. Maybe 30 Luger.

9mm is still hit or miss around here. I went into Rural King the other day. They had remington 9mm 50 rds for 11.99 limit 2. I bought 2. They also had Remington 9mm in 100 round bulk boxes for 24.99 limit 2. Bought 2. Felt like I was robbing a bank!

I always thought the ammo shortages of '08 and '12, and .22lr for the duration of those years to have been...

It was fear & panic driven and supply & demand was cashed in on.

Interesting that "they" moved from .22 to 9mm however.... why not both ... again ?

All the shelves around here are pretty much devoid of everything except for some 28 gauge clay loads, and that's with two-box limits!

I've been to Farm & Fleet, Meijer, and Wal Mart in the last week--mostly because I just wanted to understand how bad it was. It's bad.

I was looking at one of the places I usually buy on-line. In 2014, I was buying 9mm round nose FMJ for ~$11-12 for 50. Which seemed bad at the time, since I had been buying 9mm for $5 for 50 before 2008 (WWB at Walmart).

Inflation is not causing this. It is supply and demand and "expectations".

As far as 22LR, I think everyone who wanted 22LR has a lifetime stock.

On the topic of "range days", they are fewer and farther between...

....and here, my son and I are just getting into reloading.
We were fortunate to come across some primers and powder to get us rolling for a little while.
Our hope is that this will come to an end sooner than later.
*I did find a local guy with a remaining brick of large rifle primers at ‘standard’ prices. He’s a really good guy, and will be my go-to for any upcoming firearm purchases. Nice to see a local guy act fairly and not rake the table at any opportunity. He currently has a nice selection of rifles, shotguns, and handguns. All at good prices.

My local guy with fair prices is going out of business. Between COVID restrictions and an inability to get enough inventory, he's throwing in the towel.
