Screen shot is best:

Nothing technical on the dirt. The pass into Wikieup is really nice, ranches on the way. Like I mentioned, check the AZ website for road info.

Next time I do this I'm going to check out Cedar

thank you. I got off at Alamo Road Monday on my way back from Laguna. Had just a quarter tank in my RR diesel. Decided not to roll off into the back country with such little gas. Probably should have just done it and gotten diesel in Wikeiup.

I don't blame you. I filled up in Needles the first time I did the drive. Depending on rain, there can be some road wash.

Vinnie,

I thought of another route:

Take Rte 111 around the eastern side of the Salton Sea. It is a weird, dystopian drive but cool. I did it around 10 years ago. I won't do it again but it was worth the check in the box.

You can take 78 back to I10 or stay on 111 to I8.

Best.

buy as little gas in CA as possible. I rolled by my exit 'cause i refused to buy $4 gas in Needles, but bypassed the truck stop just inside AZ. If you travel the 10, there is a cheap Chevron at Tom Wells Road about 5 miles inside AZ from CA. The interstates are pretty well covered. Download Gas Buddy and it will give you a map with prices

If you see a gas station on a Reservation... no tax...cheap. A number of them in NM.
Usually well marked.

Before I forget too, NM is famous for green chile cheeseburgers and Osos grill in Capitan was voted best in the state twice.

Henry Schmidt (Supertec) built a 3.0 hot rod motor and installed it for me in my '74 Targa around 2003. I found out that I lost my job a few weeks before I drove out to pick it up...so it was not a good time for me (I had commissioned the job earlier while employed). Henry swapped the engine in for me (replaced a 2.7) and did various small repairs and worked late to get me out and on the road that night so I would not need a hotel. He had me test drive it down the PCH with the top off...and his team stayed late to do final tweaks and get me on the road. It was one of the best moments of my life and made the world/everything better. Took my wife and flew back to pick up my '89 Targa from a fellow Pelican and did the same drive on a sunny day (but stayed in a nice hotel)...then drove it back home the next day. Good times.
