the next Nissan Z ?
I have to admit if this is the next Z car there is a lot to like in the look , at least to me . If the production car looks any thing like these pics I think Nissan will have done an excellent job at making a modern retro of the original . What do you think ?

It reminds me of an F Type.

I like it. I especially like the flared fenders, which is new for a Z car (I think..)

It may be a bit derivative, but I'm happy to see they exercised some restraint and resisted the trend of having a million surface changes (a la Civic) or saddled the car with a grille from Nissan's current language. Maybe we're turning the corner.
Interesting how the nose looks like my 240z's did when I had the bumper off for refinishing, and the black roof I think makes the azz look a little saggy). I think overly articulated rockers are the new fender vents in trendville. Other than that, probably the first time in 20 years I've written Nissan and cool in the same sentence. Seems more like a spiritual successor to the Hirshberg concept of 1999 than the 350z was. Last edited by Sarc; 09-18-2020 at 03:15 AM.. |

I like it. Though I generally liked the previous two models from a styling perspective but always felt the car overall was a letdown.

Yes, I agree....shouldn't have the regular Nissan grill but a rectangular grill doesn't look great. Something a little different maybe?

Rear and top are pretty nicely done. Side profile is decent. Front is awful. What’s with the enormous maw look a la Ford Fusion? Looks like “Cleetus the slack-jawed yokel”... Personally I’d prefer something more pointy - a nice streamlined look to go with the rest of the car and a nod to the original Datsuns but hey... Wirh all the engineering that goes into things now it’s just hard to believe they can’t get proper cooling air to the engine bay without a humongous open barn door up there.
The interior is very nicely done. Like Nissan finally figured out how to make a non-obnoxious, blingy visual cacophony of lights and shapes and colors. Thank all that is holy. I can actually consider one now. It’s the first interior I’ve seen in a Nissan in about 20 years that doesn’t make me cringe or nearly have an epileptic seizure. Overall nice. I just can’t get over that front end though. Maybe with some kind of body kit... Last edited by Porsche-O-Phile; 09-18-2020 at 04:31 AM.. |

It's not a bad looking car. It's simpler than most of the other stuff out there. Often, less is more.
But I'm not a fan of the 350 or 370. The older stuff was cool, even the 300. I just don't like the new stuff. I'll be curious to see it in person.

After having many, many early Zs, and some early 80s ZXs, I say bravo to the new design, it's about time they embrace where they came from with retro badging, a throwback quarter window, and some recognizability in the tail lights...not liking the headlights though.
I remember how disappointed the Z community was with the new 350Z when it came out (including myself), it looked like a futuristic spaceship without a nod to it's heritage. Last edited by ckelly78z; 09-18-2020 at 04:56 AM.. |

If Nissan can keep the new Z close to what is seen here it will be a very refreshing turn in the right direction.

Wow, that is SO much better than the current car.
For me, the deal breaker with Z cars has always been the styling, in particular the lights, both front and back. The tail lights are AWFUL on the current cars. The current cars still retain hints of the 'bubble' styling in the 90s. This is much more crisp. |

It needs detail. The body looks like a raw fiberglass mold. Kill the ricer white lettering as well (ez fix)
If they fix it, I believe I would be a deal assuming they put a real TTv6 in it.

The grill is the worst part but overall I think it is more true to form than the 350 and 370. The 240/260 were the nicest looking of all of them and they should have had a more rounded grill like those.
The interior isn't bad and does not have the floating iPad like many other cars have.

I am definitely not their target demographic, but I like it.
A few nits, but overall a fine looking car.
