One of my friends is a retired federal judge. He sold his house in Santa Barbara, CA that he bought in 1969 and a lifetime membership to the golf course that grew up next to his house and moved to Oklahoma. He bought an entire square mile of undeveloped land one mile from a local lake. He put a house right in the middle of the property, and only one road in to the house. He left the rest of the land as a wildlife refuge. It is posted all over the place as no hunting, and he get draconian if he catches any hunter on his land. He will confiscate all hunting equipment and calls the Police and the Sheriff. He will destroy all the tree stands he finds.

His hobby is photography, and he loves taking pictures of the bald eagles, deer, and every other critter in the area. His wife gave up on having any flowers or a garden of any sort as the deer just eat it all.

The deer in that area are very relaxed, but he does not approach them. He does not feed them except during real bad winter storms he will put out some corn in a few spots away from the house.

^^^ Deer quickly learn where they are safe. There's a few gov't owned and protected areas near me. As soon as rifle season starts..the deer all head that way.
I don't know how many deer a hunter can take, but a couple years back, I was told 5 for each season. And we still have way too many.

In Alabama the "limit" is one per day in possesion, of both buck and doe. So it is legal to kill a buck and doe on the same day. Field dress then, get them home or to the butcher, go back to the hunt and shoot one more of each.

My brother is a bow hunter in Alabama. He has shot a deer early in the day, field dressed it, drug it back to his VW van, loaded it up, and gone to the local deer processor and dropped it off. Gone back up to the camp site and shot a second deer, done all the leg work, and gone back out to camp with his buddies and be ready the next day. For some reason all his buddies had no sympathy that he was really tired after all the work of getting two deer to the processor. Especially when they did not see one all day.

He estimates that he has had over 100 deer on the roof of his Westfallia camper van since he bought it in 1978.

Deer are known to seek out the boundaries between the territories of different wolf packs
