December 1, 1969 I stepped off the plane at Bien Hoa and my life changed forever.

They were treated so poor prior to leaving for Nam and when they returned. Ft Sill had a bunch in basic. When they came off base they faced a bunch of crap from many of the locals. They derogatory term doggie was thrown in their face.

It was a sad time.

From the points mentioned in the review, the movie may not have focused on that.

The military is a great opportunity to break the cycle of low expectations as long as you believe you are good enough for the military.
