Break Dancing an Olympic Sport

hopefully not PARF-worthy

URY914 12-09-2020 12:45 PM

I heard this on the news last night and I KNEW someone would start a thread on it today.
Well done.

What about ballroom dancing?
Bowling?
Mowing my lawn?
Changing a flat tire?
Ordering at a drive up menu speaker?
Installing crown molding?

Only if they light it on fire.

Longest flame wins!

We did that in high school.

Put that in the “hold my beer and watch this” games. Really does it matter anymore? With all the doping, scandals, and corruption, the Olympics are kind of a joke now anyway.

Won't be long before cities won't want to host them anymore.

Nope, too much income (well, assuming we get to a point where people can/will attend.

Big economic impact, but I’ve read a few reports of recent Olympics where the cities didn’t even break even on their investment.

That's been the case for the last several I thought.

Next up, Tap Dancing, Ballet, and C&W line dancing!

With the virus NCAA football games and basketball games are not raking in the mega money, so they colleges are slashing the men's tennis, men's gymnastics, men's volleyball, men's rowing. Of course the women's events are OK due to title 19.

Never did like judgement call sports in the olympics with winners decided by politically motivated judges. Go for all the less watched games you choose...but please make them games where there is a clear winner.

You mean Presidential elections will be a sport now? ;)

Totally agree. When someone has to judge how good the performance was, it is just a popularity contest, just like a beauty contest.

I do that at every autocross and DE I drive my 911. With no ABS, threshold braking is pretty much dancing on the pedal with just the right amount of pressure. Maybe I really am an Olympian!

varmint 12-09-2020 01:55 PM

there should just be one category called "disappoint your father" sports.

HardDrive 12-09-2020 01:59 PM

I don't think you can deny hip hop dancing is athletic. And I understand the desire to keep the list of sport relevant.

I question skateboarding as an olympic sport. You can be a very good skateboarder without being particularly athletic.

masraum 12-09-2020 02:02 PM

Is break dancing any less "sport" than the ribbon and ball dancing?

No doubt most any Cirque du Soleil performer is more athletic than a ribbon dancer. They have some fantastic shows and I will watch a Cirque du Soleil show and if I never saw another ice skating performance I would not be disappointed.
