Same car as wife?

How weird is it to own same car as wife? Mine got a sequoia last November and I love it. I’m thinking about a vehicle now for tax savings and love a v8 that can tow. Don’t trust Chevy to get the Tahoe right. Ford ain’t ever happening so I’m left with the sequoia.

Hers is a white limited. I’d be going with a green trd pro. Different color, wheels, roof rack.

Also considering 4Runner but im so used to big roomy v8s......

My truck is used for a lot of hunting, fishing, etc. Kinda tired of a truck bed that is usually empty and guns, etc piled up in the back seat.

berettafan 12-13-2020 10:53 PM

Towing would be up to a 21’ Carolina skiff.

Another thing I love about the suv option is not feeling like I’m docking the USS Enterprise every time I park. My tundra is a relative school bus.

Have also considered a cap but guns and such aren’t really secure and would prefer dog in conditioned air.

pete3799 12-14-2020 02:43 AM

Not that weird.
I drove a 95 4 runner (purchased new) and my wife drove a 99 4 runner also purchased new.
I say go for it.

gchappel 12-14-2020 03:36 AM

We purchased the same cars about 5yrs ago. A pair of Jeep Grand cherokee's.
Only real difference is mine is 4x4 and hers is not.
As long as the vehicle fulfills your needs, it works well. She loves hers.
It is nice to get in her car and feel at home

Hey if you like it why not? My wife has an E63 and I have an SL63, not the same but definitely similar.

racer 12-14-2020 04:41 AM

My neighbors in the 70's drove the same cars... every 3 years or so, wife got a new caprice and he got the old one. Always white.

As long as you don't start dressing like your wife, you should be ok.

fred cook 12-14-2020 04:58 AM

Get the best..............

Get the best, forget the rest! Go buy yourself a Supercrew Ford F150 XLT or Lariat (if you like leather, etc.). I've driven F150s for years without a problem. There's a reason that the Ford truck has been the #1 best seller in the US for the last 43 years!

vonsmog 12-14-2020 05:32 AM

Not 100% the same, but my wife has the 84' coupe and I drive the 85' wagon. Both are W123's so does this count?

masraum 12-14-2020 05:39 AM

In this neighborhood there've been at least 2 couples that had matching cars, 2 Jeep Wranglers and 2 minis.

At one time, this was the missus and I.
1997 miata, 1999 miata. Mine was modified and here's was stock (other than different wheels.

I have had my El Camino 6 months longer than my wife, and I can bet she is gonna want to keep her Macan. So it would be really weird for us.

2 of each...

vash 12-14-2020 08:35 AM

what about a slight change. the new Land Cruiser? V8 as well, but i think the price is stupid high.

how about the Nissan Armada?

rubenova 12-14-2020 08:44 AM

Question on the original post. What do you mean "tax savings?"

Evans, Marv 12-14-2020 08:47 AM

Nope. Our ideas about transportation are completely different. I have a one ton van & she has an electric cross over. Can't get much different than that.

911 Rod 12-14-2020 09:20 AM

Real men drive Tundra's :D
Isn't the Sequoia the same platform as the Tundra?
The 5.7 is such an amazing engine I can't see getting the 4Runner with the V6.

Fast Freddy 944 12-14-2020 09:24 AM

I don't see matching car's round these parts, just suv's pick em ups, and lots of 4 door cars. Bleech..

Rusty Heap 12-14-2020 09:54 AM

Both of us drive RAV4's...............300 hp V6's they stopped making in 2011.........they're a rocket.

GH85Carrera 12-14-2020 10:02 AM

I can't imagine living without a pickup bed attached to my daily driver. It only gets limited occasional use, but it sure is handy when I need it. I have hauled nothing but a few bucks of compost up to a $490,000 camera system. Not at the same time!

My wife just brings me along to drive my Elky when she needs a pickup bed.

911boost 12-14-2020 10:28 AM

I don't see a problem with it at all.

I am going to route Vash mentions in a month or so.

Seahawk 12-14-2020 10:52 AM

If I was in the market the Sequoia would be the leader in the clubhouse with the Land Cruiser.

The colors available now are really outstanding.

I do have a lockable truck bed lid on my Tundra which has made it more useful.

Tim Hancock 12-14-2020 11:19 AM

His and hers 6 cylinder Cayennes.

vash 12-14-2020 11:21 AM

my wife and i wear matching sweaters.. a car is not big deal.

i would file it under "I". as in I could give a flying rats ass what everyone thinks. :) on the bright side, it would be nice during car maintenence..if you mess up, you have anothe exact same car you can use as a sort of roadmap to get you back on course. like that brilliant moment where you thought you could remember where all the wires went.

Helix8 12-14-2020 11:30 AM

Just put these on your trailer hitch and problem solved

red-beard 12-14-2020 12:03 PM

Somehow I don't think I am going to get Mrs. Beard to drive an F250.

well i was feeling good about it till the last post;)

appreciate the thoughts on this.

Alan A 12-14-2020 07:00 PM

Don’t understand.
You think the tundra is a bus but like the sequoia. It’s the same thing...

Alan A 12-14-2020 07:02 PM

Also if you want a nicer roomier interior I’m a big fanboy of the ram limited.
So is the wife - she wants mine.

Called mine an Elco, maybe only car I ever named. ;)

Too many cars too little time to buy duplicates.

Ah man, I thought the Starbucks coffee cups might be a bit too much.....

berettafan 12-15-2020 07:50 AM

To close things out here's a pic of the truck i bought (on right) and as it happens a Sequoia that is identical to my wife's on the left.

Crazy as it sounds this thing drives like a compact car compared to my pickup. Shorter wheelbase makes all the difference.

911 Rod 12-15-2020 08:37 AM

Your truck does look more manly. :D

911boost 12-15-2020 08:44 AM

I like the color, it needs a big star on the front doors...

Love it. The new colors are great.

Mr. Merk 12-15-2020 09:11 AM

My wife and I both used to have black Audi S4s, but hers was 11 years newer than mine.

Now we both have 911s. Mine an '88 and hers a 2008 4S that she's trading for a 2010 Turbo this coming weekend.

Seahawk 12-15-2020 09:23 AM

That is cool Mr. Merk!

Beretta, the Sequoia looks great. As I am sure you know, there are some really good liners for the cargo area to protect the carpeting. I have done Weather Tech stuff for my LC. I rate it at 6/10: Not disappointed, not really impressed.

berettafan 12-15-2020 09:38 AM

Shopping for one now! was kinda surprised it didn't come with a cargo liner. this truck will have waders, decoys, dog etc in the back so gotta get something in there.

flipper35 12-15-2020 10:01 AM

I guess we don't have a his and hers cars. We just drive whatever we need at the moment. She works from home and so doesn't have to drive often.

That's because

1) These are sold to soccer moms who won't be caught dead in a more practical Minivan
2) Huge profits on dealer installed accessories vs having them be standard;)

Looks like a nice rig. The blacked out trim, roof rack and wheels certainly make it look more masculine. Knowing how tough these things are and how long they last, it could be the last car you every buy!
