It is being widely reported that the Prime Minister intervened with the Palace to get this pushed thru. I'm sure Prince Charles was onboard since he is a climate change guy like Hammy. Funny how a climate change guy drives a race car that burns gas for no legitimate purpose (if you look at it from the Greenpeace mentality).

When I think of Sir Jackie, I think of a driver that not only won but started the push towards safety in racing.

When I think of Sir Frank, I think of a person that overcame incredible obstacles to establish the best privateer racing team in the sport's history.

When I think of Hammy, I think of a guy that didn't grow up in poverty as he and some others claim. A guy that never paid any dues to get a drive in a top team and was beyond lucky with Mercedes in a car that far outclasses the rest of the field. As we saw with George Russell, its the car. With Hammy, I also remember how ugly he was to McLaren when things started to unravel and how that pissy attitude continued at Mercedes when things haven't gone his way.

This was bound to happen, I just thought it would be after he retires and with a different sovereign on the throne.

Can a female be knighted?
If so...Viola should be knighted...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1081993-unreal-girl-biker.html

When a rookie driver like George Russel, that had never driven it before can overcome two bad decisions and pit stops from Mercedes and only NOT win because of a late puncture it proves that car is simply superior.

A better question is whether the house of Windsor gave themselves an out. For example, the next time (not if, but when) he puts on a "screw Whitey" t-shirt and steps out onto the podium, can they de-knight him? It would seem that if putting the UK in a good light and representing it to the rest of the world is virtuous, then prying a wedge into social divides while claiming the world spotlight should be equally un-virtuous from the standpoint of British standing in the world.

Did he take a knee before being knighted?

Yes.

He grew up in project housing, he and his father's initial efforts in karting were enormous. Don't understand all the hate for this guy in the US.
Probably you can't take the justified criticism of the USA for institutional racism.

rusnak 01-05-2021 08:17 AM

Maybe we just don't like Limeys, have you ever thought of that? Now go away, you Ferner!

From the Wiki:

Hamilton's parents separated when he was two, after which he lived with his mother and older half-sisters, Samantha and Nicola, until he was twelve.[9] Hamilton then lived with his stepmother, Linda, and his half-brother Nicolas, who is also a professional racing driver.[10][11] Hamilton was raised a Catholic.[12]

Hamilton's father bought him a radio-controlled car when he was five.[13] Hamilton finished second in the national BRCA championship the following year against adult competition.

Hamilton's father bought him a go-kart for Christmas when he was six and promised to support his racing career as long as he worked hard at school.[16] To support his son, Hamilton's father took redundancy from his position as an IT manager and became a contractor – sometimes working up to four jobs at a time including employment as a double glazing salesman, dishwasher and putting up signs for estate agents[17] – while still attending his son's races.[18] Hamilton's father later set up his own IT company.[19]

It is entirely possible that he was living in a Council Flat because his parents divorced and his mother couldn't afford more, but that has never been divulged. Really doesn't make a difference what the living conditions were though because most families living in poverty as is inferred, do not get their kids into Karting or buy them RC cars.

Moreover, those in poverty usually don't have jobs as an IT manager. Anthony Hamilton voluntarily left his position in order to do his own thing and work multiple jobs in order to support his son's dreams.

One of the reasons people don't like the guy is his and others reliance of this 'poverty' to bolster his success by saying, look what he has overcome. But if you read between the lines you can see it really isn't as claimed. Additionally, his using this 'poverty' to compare himself to Rossberg was disingenuous and gross. Not to mention, by the time he made those comparisons he was living in Monaco, driving a Pagani Zonda round its streets late at night, and having a net worth somewhere north of $150m.

None of this means he isn't a very good driver.

Its kind of like comparing Harry Kane to Diego Costa. One seems to be a very nice guy and the other a complete a$s. Both are great players and goal scorers but that isn't then entirety of their character. As for Hamilton, there are things he does and says that cause people to cringe and not like him, which is totally understandable.

Those with limited comprehension often rely on the race card instead of wits.

He is a giant doosh. A phony.

To make it easier to COMPREHEND, I've listed some of the reasons:

1) his faked outrage at anyone who eats meat.
2) his outrage at others who don't also fake outrage to climate change even though he's responsible for burning millions of gallons of fuel every year in cars and planes
3) his doosh hair do's that change at every race.
4) his primping like a school girl during podiums and interviews.
5) his many doosh facial hair fails.
6) His punk tatoos
7)) his phony bull flop patronizing statements that are obviously coached

I can keep going if you want, there are more.

cockerpunk 01-05-2021 02:20 PM

wow. i mean always knew there was a **** ton of racism in racing, but you know to have such a strong refresher is really ... wow.

he is one of the best drivers of all time in F1, he deserves it.

sammyg2 01-05-2021 02:54 PM

Hmmmm, over the years on this forum I've made it no secret that I really liked shumi, and kimi, and several other drivers.
I've also expressed my dislike for things that vettel said or did, things that crashtappen said or did, rickie-ricardio when he doosh drank out of his friggin shoe, often criticized that ausie F1 guy that retired several years back, didn't like gross-jean and said so numerous times,
.... and no one called me a racist.

But I treat hambone is the same way, equally, and I'm called a WACIST!!!!!!!
Gentlemen, there-in lies the little mind.
Persons of low-intellect who resort to kindy-garden games because that is all they are capable of.
Equality is not allowed in the small mind, "some" people are immune to scrutiny and HONESTY or you might get called nanny-nanny-nanny-goat.
Shameful.

rusnak 01-05-2021 04:25 PM

^ You're racist if you say anything negative about the half-black guy.

petrolhead611 01-06-2021 12:21 AM

Now there is a good summary of current affairs.

flipper35 01-06-2021 09:22 AM

How good would he be really if he didn't have all that money behind him?

Would he be able to beat someone like Senna head to head in equal equipment? If Sir Lewis were in a second rate car and Juan Pablo in Lewis' car what would the results be?

Schumacher was good but also had the best equipment.

Hamilton had a lot of money behind him because he was not all white, not in spite of it.
