I don't think that's right, he already has a MBE, this time he's knighted. I could be in error, but that's how I see it.

stevej37 01-03-2021 12:41 PM

He's been knighted??
For what?

Racerbvd 01-03-2021 12:54 PM

Sadly, not a joke, but he is..

Congratulations to one of the greatest racecar drivers of all-time.

tevake 01-03-2021 01:31 PM

It's great to see how well thought of he is in his own country!
Congrats lewis!

Sometimes it's best to let somethings go on by, if all you have to say about it is negative personal ramblings.

Cheers Richard

I wonder if he is going to sue everyone else with the “Sir” title?

And yet, he does not live there to avoid taxes.

Did he join those living in no income tax Monaco? The original top gear did a bit on that...all the F-1 drivers who live there.

BRexits going to hit them hard.
No going back on the ferry to avoid passport scans for days resident calculations...

No, more likely he'll sue Warnor Brothers and Christopher Nolan to stop using "The Dark Knight Rises" as a movie title.

yellowperil 01-03-2021 11:57 PM

I think it's a good thing, and he earned it IMO

I my mind a knighthood would be more worthy given to those that have served others in a non selfish way. Most people working in the covid hospital setting the last year for example would hence be more worthy.
But if a knighthood is to be presented to individuals who have excelled for them selves, then Lewis is a no brainer.

GH85Carrera 01-04-2021 05:14 AM

So he is a knight now, what will they do this year for hime when Mercedes and Lewis win another title? The car itself is a clearly superior car and the rules don't make massive changes until 2022. When a rookie driver like George Russel, that had never driven it before can overcome two bad decisions and pit stops from Mercedes and only NOT win because of a late puncture it proves that car is simply superior.

In my time spent in GB I was told that it was meant to honor those who served others, but the Queen may do as she will.

Jackie Steward is also a knight, no?

slow&rusty 01-04-2021 05:24 AM

Extremely well deserved...so what's the problem?

yellowperil 01-04-2021 06:31 AM

There are eight in total (I looked it up)

Sir Henry Seagrave
Sir Malcolm Campbell
Sir Jack Brabham
Sir Frank Williams
Sir Stirling Moss
Sir Jackie Stewart
Sir Patrick Head

and now Sir Lewis Hamilton
and he's in good company IMO

I'm surprised not to see John Surtees, Nigel Mansell, and Graham Hill included. Especially Surtees. Champion in M/Cycles and F1

No problem with me. He is a good driver, and I don't think anyone argues he is not one of the best.

British titles and the entire monarchy are of less concern to me and most of the world as to the fate of a bug in the Amazon jungle about to be eaten by a frog.

The monarchy is just silly outdated tradition that is admittedly a very long tradition. That history is why we are all typing in English and not some of the other language that was spoken by conquerors over the millinea. It is not my tax dollars, or my country, and I can't possible care less about his title or any other royal title.

We went through Brexit is 1776 to 1783.

IDK about those serving in the COVID crisis as that would be thousands. But the rest of your statement is spot on. Perhaps Hamilton has has been charitable enough with his wealth to deserve Knighthood. Just winning championships ain't enough for me.
