Somebody is Brain Dead

I pick up my 17 from school yesterday. As we are heading home, after reading a text she gasps "Oh no! Mara's mom has been declared brain dead"

She was the the choir president, her and the entire family had gone to Nevada for a family wedding. All five in the party had contracted Covid but the Mom was the only one who needed to be hospitalized. She had been doing well enough that here discharge was eminent and the entire family was to return to Houston.

Absolutely devastated my kid who had already dealt with a Covid related death of a parent of a close friend.

It was a somber dinner as we tried to process and plan how to help the family.

Dinner was interrupted by another text. The girl texted "Big mix up, mom is not brain dead. the doctor called the wrong family mom is fine"

Never a dull moment, would like some dull moments please.

Doctors and nurses stretched into fatigue, even people used to life and death stress are failing.

My wife's friend a nurse has age about 10 years over this pandemic, it's taking it's toll.

Wow! THat's a heck of a story. Happy for your family and especially Mara's family. They've probably never been so happy for a serious mix-up.

A buddy of mine died of it on Sunday. I talked to him on the 1st and he told me the Covid was kicking his ass. His brother found him dead on Sunday after they couldn't reach him. He was 56.

He caught it at a company Christmas party. He gave it to his parents who were hospitalized but are home now. I don't know if he ever saw a doctor for it.

He was a good guy - he will be missed by a lot of people.

Mostly agree, except that someone still had to learn that their mom is brain dead.

Exactly why I didn't say it was a "good" story, and why I specified that I was happy for the OP and the directly affected family. But as you said, this call was destined for someone and about someone, and those folks are not having a good day.

Understood, and didn't intend to imply that you don't have sympathy for the unknown family. Sorry for any confusion.

No worries, it's easy to have misunderstandings online. I just wanted to clarify in case you or anyone else had misunderstood. Clearly, it was me that had misunderstood, hahahah.
