My business card says "statistician." Buying a lotto ticket virtually does not change your chances of winning.

Just because a person buys a lotto ticket here and there....doesn't make them an addict.
Might be the best vice a person could have.

I have yet to spend a dollar on a lottery tic. I voted for it years ago when the great State of California said a third of the dough would go to schools. Never happened, the State reapropriates the money before it ever gets to a school and that pissed me off. That and i figure the odds are better of bag of money falling from the sky into my backyard. That said, my sister in law won $10 M on some sort of super scratcher 3 years ago. Biotch

I was getting a ticket last weekend when the pots were around $500m. Cashier said that a guy had just been in and spent $700, yes hundred, on lottery tickets.

I handed over my 20 and left

^^^ Very possible an 'office pool' purchase.
When I was working...we always had a $5/person per week lottery pool. Split the winnings.
Always made the day of the drawing more fun for the workers.

I've lost interest in gambling. I haven't been to Vegas in 10 years but it used to be great fun to spend Saturday afternoon in a sports book drinking free booze, hanging with my friends, and watching the games.
I lost interest in college football this year for some reason. Cashed in my account with the bookie and I haven't watched a whole game all season.
But I was in line buying cigs for MrsWD and the old lady in front of me who didn't look all that well heeled bought $50 worth of various cards and do dads.
I thought, "Hmmm. If I'm going to spend $30 on cigarettes that are pretty much guaranteed to be bad for my life, why not buy a lottery ticket?" So I got a $2 Powerball ticket that is in the trash tonight, along with about $2 worth of MrsWD's cigarettes.

I have yet to spend a single dollar on any lottery. I do buy beer at a store that sells lottery tickets. I go buy beer and see some of the regulars in there buying lottery tickets.

It would be interesting to see the real odds of winning both lotteries. Billions to one I suspect.

Oklahoma passed horse racing and that was going to fund the schools and make all the schools have lots of money. Nope. Then we passed casino gambling since the Indian tribes were doing it and that too was going to solve the school's money problems. Nope.

Then the lottery passed. The schools are still underfunded according to teachers. Liquor by the drink, and medical weed were also going to solve all our money issues. Not yet.

Maybe if we pass legal prostitution, heroine, and crack the schools will be fully funded. I bet not.

I have long said the lottery is just a tax on the math impaired. 302,575,350 to 1 is just not something I see as way to spend my money.
