Check your insurance! Hagerty renewal is due. $1825. American Collectors: $463
I'm lazy - and don't like to jump companies to save a few dollars (up to about 25-50% if we're being honest).
1987 Carrera Coupe $58k agreed/guaranteed value. Policy matched by line items aside from spare parts coverage (ie tool theft/loss in the garage- $1500 w/ Hagerty vs. $500 w/ American Collectors) Southern CA I don't put anywhere near 2,000 miles per year on the car - was wondering why on earth I was paying so much w/ Hagerty (just "felt" high if you will). FLOORED when American Collectors quoted it out at $463 for the year. I called Hagerty back to see if perhaps I was miscategorized or something that could explain the delta. The woman was very helpful/kind - mentioned she's seen this occasionally where it just feels materially incorrect and would bring up in the staff meeting. The guy at American Collectors said that he's seen a LOT of 80's/90's car owners migrating as Hagerty prices have skyrocketed. Mine have crept up - but honestly started out at maybe $1500/year and I didn't get comparison quotes as I figured they'd be the same and Hagerty was the top of the food chain. Moral of the story: do a little digging. Not 100% sold - but have seen positive posts on here and other forums re: American Collectors - I'm all for company loyalty but not at FOUR TIMES the cost. |

My most recent Hagerty annual premium was only $493....
......for 3 Porsches and 3 motorcycles. I can live with that.

Been with American Collectors with 2 of my 3 old German cars.....I did have one small claim early on after a minor engine fire.......Very impressed with how they handled that claim....Highly recommend.....I think I pay about $750 for a 73.5 Targa and a 1960 190SL.........

In Canada, but I just moved the 911 and my 86 GMC K1500 to haggerties for $564 annual. And that’s Canadian, think that’s like 22 USD these days lol.

I have ACI after Hagerty screwed me on a claim.
What was interesting with them was finding out the 3rd car was effectively free. |

Call Haggerty. Tell them. See what they can do. Premium creep is real. Sometimes you need to shake the tree.

Hagerty has my hmmwv at 900$ a year, and I live 30 miles from town.
I'm barely at age to get classic car insurance so I'll grab my ankles for now.

In Haggerty's defense, there is a real hard market going on in auto insurance currently. I delivered two large renewals in the last week that were brutal. One had DOUBLED and the other was merely up 25%!!! Both of these were six figure renewals.
This is shopping and pushing back hard as posssible. Most (virtually all) carriers are running upside down on their auto business. Things have absolutely turned goofy in the last 6 months. Classic car insurance may be part of this as well. |

I have my 911 covered under a special agreed value policy for $46K for my 85 911. I have my other two cars and my house with the same company, ANAPAC, or American national.
The 911 insurance is $504 per year, and I can drive as much as 5K miles per year. It is hard to calculate the real cost of the insurance bill I pay because I get money back if I have no claims. I received a check last year for $1,180.25 on the and it will be more this year. It goes up every year if I have no claims. The same company did not blink when I hit a deer with my 911. In the end they were fine with me going to the body shop that specializes in old Porsches. When we had a hail storm that destroyed the roof, they paid for a new roof that was almost the amount I paid for my 911. So they pay for the claims, and they are great to work with.

With Hagerty, I'm paying $670/year for $32k agreed value.
Not bloated enough to bother shopping around, yet. I was initially drawn to them for good reputation of no hassle claims paid. That said, Hagerty has gotten a bit bloated with all the extras that I'd rather not pay for.

BrakeL8,
Do you have a bad driving record? Are you paying $1800 or $1500? Either one is huge. Can you call and see what $30k coverage would cost you? $58k coverage is very high, and that doesn't come cheap, apparently.

I don't insure a lot of things except for liability coverage. Ya gotta shop around every few years too imo....
My Hagerty quote for 35k coverage was a bit over 700....not even close to what she's worth.... But that's a big azz beer to cry in

RE: Record- this was exactly what I was thinking maybe happened- misclassification. But no, I have a completely clean record. I'm almost 40. 3 kids. Homeowner. Business owner. Perfect credit. Big umbrella policy. Boring/ridiculously low risk to insure. Seems to have crept from ~$1300 in 2017-2018 to $1825 now. Insane. Again if American or someone else was $1300 I wouldn't bother moving- but at this point I have a bad taste left in my mouth also from what you all are quoting you're paying in this thread w/ Hagerty. I don't get the nuances of insurnace- but when I have other cars worth more insured w/ non-collectors carriers and they're 50% less and the car sees 1000 miles a year on average I can't wrap my head around the method behind the madness. Away I go. |
